55Fantastic experience! Lots of shade, several camp chairs, and some agility equipment. It is well cleared with nice little trails. Definitely bring water for your pups (there’s at least one bowl there, but probably bring another just in case).
55Loved this sniff spot!! All 3 of my dogs had so much fun! Multiple agility courses, under the shade of trees, toys scattered throughout the area, seating for the humans, extra poop bags, and plenty of place for the dogs to run, play, and explore! Highly recommend this sniff spot and I will be coming back!! Since it is a wooded area we did see a tick on our dogs harness once we got home so beware of ticks and be sure your pet is up to date on prevention. :)
55100% worth the drive from gainesville. this place is awesome- amazing spot to work on recall, duck hunt training, or just let the pups run. for anxious drivers like me- if you use apple maps, its the driveway next to where apple maps takes you that has the gate shown in the pics of the spot. you can see the gate easily from the road, dont go down a long driveway or anything.
55Great place my dogs sniffed a lot. Good to be able to run around without worries of other dogs or people. Bring mosquito repellent. Good experience
55This was our first sniff spot, ever. We had a GREAT time, very clean and private.
55My dogs were thrilled to be back!
45Skye enjoyed her visit
55This was our first sniff spot experience and absolutely loved this place. Will definitely be back!
55We visited this SniffSpot, our first, today. It was well fenced, safe, and had a wooded buffer around it. We had a blue blowup collar on our dog but the fencing was so good we removed that collar. Our 2 yr old dog loved the woods and open areas and we will certainly be returning. The host had put a lot of effort into establishing and maintaining the area. Definitely recommend it.
55Just love this spot. It gives Archie so many opportunities to run, dig and sniff.

Description

Hello, We would like to welcome our dog friends to our private fully fenced wooded dog park we named The North Star Ranch. The North Star is positioned right over our entrance, and you might see it if you stay at the ranch late. Our ranch currently has no land improvements, which means that you’ll have to bring your own water, snacks, poo bags, and flashlights if you book early or late in the day. Also we have no trash collection, so please take your waste home with you. This is what we do as well. Consider a visit to our ranch a visit to nature that has been fenced in for your dogs’ convenience. And as in all Florida woods, there are some safety concerns you need to be aware of before your reservation. There are more or less visible stumps and vines all over the ranch. There are also some prickly cacti, buckthorn bushes and brambles. Tree logs and trunks have been arranged in some areas as edging for trails. The ranch is a work in progress and we are very slowly cutting prickly plants back to where they aren’t in dogs’ faces, but it’s taking us a while. So be prepared for an encounter with a gentle Florida wilderness. Long pants and closed toed shoes are very much needed! We also suggest tick spray if you’re worried about them. We find that in winter time they are very rare. There is a back gate at the ranch and we don’t suggest venturing out of, as the back of the property is NOT fenced, and trails are unkempt. Please stay in the fenced-in area only for your safety! We hope you and your dog enjoys lots of sniffing while you’re either strolling along or sitting down in one of our picnic chairs. We usually turn them sideways when we leave so they don’t collect rainwater. There are a couple cones and tires and poles around the sitting area and you’re welcome to rearrange them for your dog’s needs. We hope you enjoy our ranch as much us we do!

Cleanliness

100% of guests said this spot was as clean as expected during their visit.

Hazards

There is a small hole under the fence in the SW corner of the property. A teacup or tiny dog may be able to squeeze out in that spot, if they really want to. It’s a small critter pathway that I’m not able to completely stop them from using. Please pay attention in that area if your dog is tiny and motivated to dig their way out.

Hi, we’re TJ (Tjasa) and Eric and we’re your hosts. We have 2 German Shepherds and a rescue Belgian Malinois. We understand that off leash time is an important part of dogs’ biological fulfillment, so we want to share our woods with anyone wanting to provide that to their own dogs. Reach out to us with any questions about the ranch.

Zoomies: a high-speed, reckless, frantic, exhilarating, and completely unstoppable run. An outward showcase of inner happiness. In my role as a Rover sitter, I regularly care for dogs seeking heightened mental and physical engagement in contrast to the confines of apartment life. To address this, I've curated a secluded, shaded area in my backyard exclusively for you and your furry friend to unleash energy with minimal distractions from approaching dogs Understanding that dogs thrive when their innate needs are met, I've tailored the space accordingly. For sight hounds, there's a flirt pole to satisfy their urge to chase. Border collies can indulge their herding instincts with a dedicated herding ball, while scent hounds can engage in nose work with scattered treats across the area ( your own, or mine for additional charge) Consider this space your dog's personal playground, where they can exert themselves fully before returning to your apartment, assured of a restful night's sleep. Our collection of toys includes a flirt pole, bungee tethered tree tug, frisbee, Chuck It fetch arms, herding ball, and herding egg, with the exciting addition of a Swift Paws Course lure coming soon! For your convenience, we've arranged several amenities for your own comfort: - A dedicated 💩 bag station and trash can ensure cleanliness. You'll have access via a smart padlock for easy entry. Enjoy your favorite tunes with our Bluetooth speaker. - Keep your leash handy with our leash hanger. - Stay connected with WiFi access via QR code. - Relax in seating for two while your furry friend plays. - Convenient parking is available onsite. Please note that we have two dogs of our own, but they will be safely inside or fenced off on their side of the yard during your visit, ensuring a peaceful environment for you and your companion.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING IN ENTIRETY BEFORE BOOKING: This property is 1.7 acres total, but has approximately 1.5 acres of usable space for dog recreation. __________ Description The front yard is mostly shaded and grassy. The north yard has been planted in native plant species--please do not allow dogs to dig in this area or tear up the delicate native plants as it has taken a lot of time, money, and energy to semi-restore this area for native wildlife and pollinators. Its a great area for sniffing, running, and playing games of "ball search." There is a garden on the SW side of the property that is not fenced off from the rest of the yard, and a large mulched area behind it. Currently there is a large sandy area due to a septic tank and drainfield project. Native seeds were planted recently, and they are starting to germinate. Please keep pets off of this area for now. Please keep dogs out of the garden beds, but running through the mulched area behind it is fine. _______ Wildlife There is a gopher tortoise burrow along the fenceline near the mulched area. Gopher tortoises are a state threatened species. It is a crime to disturb this state protected species, and dogs are one of the biggest threats to their populations. If ANY disturbance is found near the gopher tortoise burrow, the host will contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and pursue appropriate venues to press charges. KEEP DOGS AWAY FROM THE GOPHER TORTOISE AND ITS BURROW. The host of this property does not allow any harassment of native wildlife (with the exception of gray squirrels*) including moles, pocket gophers, snakes, and the resident gopher tortoise. *Chasing gray squirrels is alright, as they have become a nuisance to the solar panels and roof.* No venomous snakes have been seen on the property for at least 4 years, when the current owners bought the home, but the host recommends staying away from the mostly unused blue shed in the backyard, next to which there is wood piled, as this makes good escape cover for snakes, though none have been seen in this area yet. _________________________ Dog Wash and Training Area CURRENTLY GROWING NEW GRASS, PLEASE AVOID THE SANDY PART OF THIS YARD AND ACCESS THROUGH THE BACK PORCH. The chainlink fenced area behind the house is a training and wash area. There is some agility equipment laying in the porch and an area of rocks where you can bathe your dog. There is a hose and usually soap on the windowsill. A water station is also available in this area, though you may have to turn on the faucet. _________________ Dog Poop Cleanup A poop scoop is available in the dog wash area and a small, white poop trash bin is next to it. If the bin is full, or poop is far from this small cleanup station, use poop bags instead. Poop bags are available in the black, diamond-shaped dispenser to the left of the garage. Please place used poop bags in the large black trash bin by the gate on your way out. Other than that, enjoy your time here! You can find more pictures of the property @TheSalvagedSandhill on Instagram.
