Sometimes

my dog will be kept out of sight and as quiet as possible. the 2 side neighbors do not have dogs. the one across the street does but they don't have it out often and it seems to always be leashed. the dogs at the back fence can be a bit fence reactive but are not always outside and the back neighbors did put up some tarp to block them mostly from being able to see eachother through any cracks in the fence. i am willing to try to talk to them about their schedule of letting their dogs out to try to coordinate. i am experienced with reactive dogs and willing to accommodate as much as possible. my current dog is not dog reactive. in some of the location pics our special girl mocha who is no longer with us who loved to sprint and play in this yard is pictured.

in nice weather the neighbors can occasionally be heard but it is usually a quiet area. the dog will not be able to see the neighbors children through the fence. the dog could possibly see the tops of the tall neighbors head at times but they are only out in nice weather usually and not much during winter.

Location

Otego, New York

Description

We have a fully fenced in yard large enough to play ball in or wear your pup(s) out in running around playing. Just big enough but not too big. On quiet street. Homeowners are experienced in and sensitive to needs of reactive and special needs dogs and hope to accommodate safe spaces for dogs to play. Please ask any questions you may have.

Hazards

Couple of small divots in grass. Small trees need to watch out for if playing fetch (so ball doesn't get stuck and dog tries to jump into bush/tree to get it)

60 acres of upstate New York forest just for you!

Greetings! Our land is a mix of flat grass (think lawn), some long/short pasture, and the majority being heavy wooded forest area. You will enjoy some rustic logging trails up there (but please don’t expect a perfect state park-type path). The terrain can be steep to climb to the top depending on your skill level. Once you are at the “top” of the hill, there is “flat” land that you can hike (I’ve even jogged up there -slowly!). For those of you that like a challenge, besides our two pathways up the hill, we offer a very steep side of the hill to climb. One of the photos shows water – that is the case if there is a heavy rain (likely September/October) but please know we don’t always have a running stream. We do offer a hose and bucket to rinse your dog’s feet at the end of the stay. The photos with the leaves are from last year – this is what the property will [hopefully] look like in September/October. November starts getting cold. December will bring snow with some plowed areas. For accessibility: if you use a wheelchair, you can drive your car onto the land and use the flat part of the land if you can access grassy lawn. If there is interest, I can offer to take your dog up the hill to run around for a nominal fee. We are new to this so please ask questions. Consider this spot “forever wild” woods. It is incredibly calm and peaceful up on the hill. You can quietly listen to the woods or bring a radio and sing to your dog loudly. If you are not a climber, even playing fetch behind the barn is nice. Note: inside the barn is off limits. This is a working property and there are tools, tractors, and such that are not good for any animals. Please Remember: there are no fences and we have a state highway in front of our property. All the area that you would use would be set back an appropriate distance, but I want to be clear for everyone sake that there are no fences. If your dog does not come back when called, perhaps this spot isn’t the best for any off-leash activity. Wild Animals: There are deer in the woods (and some dogs love to chase deer!) so please keep that in mind as well. We have also seen rabbits and an occasional skunk, raccoon, fox, groundhogs, and once even a porcupine. We hear coyote sometimes but I have not seen any on our land. Upstate New York has been known to house bobcats, mountain lions, and bears among others, but I have yet to see them on our land as well. We do see bald eagles on occasion. Lastly, your reservation is for 90 minutes to allow for time to truly enjoy nature.
