55Winnie and I were happy to return to Caren’s backyard where Winnie sniffed and ran to her heart’s content! Caren provided fresh water and a comfortable patio and plenty of toys. Parking was easy and so was the communication. Next time we want to return with a dog friend!
55Caren was a terrific host - she left a hose and a pool for my pup which was perfect on this toasty day!
55Perfect backyard for a game of fetch!
55I felt my a bit skittish dog was safe in the backyard. Fresh water readily available, lots of toy and ball options. There was shade and sun.
55My Beagle walked around sniffing for the entire visit. Yard was vey clean and attractive
55Our two pups and their friend had a great time playing chase and racing around the yard. The space was clean with thoughtful touches like available water, lots of toys, and comfortable chairs for the humans. We had a great time!
55Our dog had a blast! The fencing was very safe, there were lots of balls for him to chase and the host left water out for him. We will definitely be back.
55Great spot!
55Fantastic backyard with plenty of toys and easy parking.
55Wonderful yard with lots of toys!

Hazards

cautions: there are two window wells on the left side of the house and crawl space used as a storage area under the back porch (crawl space is large enough for a human to fit - about 4' off the ground). There is also an unlocked/sometimes open shed w/lawn mower and other tools in the back yard. Please note for sound sensitive pups: it seems one of my neighbors may have put in a pool, on some wkends there can be quite a bit of noise from the kids playing in it.

Additional rules

Apologies, we have temporarily limited our Sniffspot slots as we tend to the needs of our ailing dog. Two out of three dogs are battling significant illnesses and it can be challenging to manage yard use. We hope to fully open again soon once things have stabilized. Thanks for your support! ------------------------------------- ** Please note this Sniffspot is primarily for dog owner use, it is not for entrepreneurs who are conducting dog-related business such as catering canine parties or social events and/or charging dog owners fees for dog walking services. While I applaud such entrepreneurs I request they take their business elsewhere. Sorry for any inconvenience but thank your for respecting my wishes ** ------------------------------------- All visiting dogs must be fully vaccinated and free of parasites. Please discourage digging when playing and bring bags to pick up after your dog when they go potty. There is a trash can available for quick disposal. Do not leave dog(s) unsupervised. Please feel free to play with the toys in the yard and relax on the patio furniture. Dogs are allowed on the furniture. Please do not remove any items from the yard. Resident dogs will be kept indoors unless other arrangements have been made in advance for a play date. We hope you enjoy the yard as much as we do! Guests can let themselves in the gate. Please note for sound sensitive pups: it seems one of my neighbors may have put in a pool, on some wkends there can be quite a bit of noise from the kids playing in it. Also for same-day/short notice reservations can be challenging if I'm on the road or otherwise indisposed, I may not see your reservation promptly, therefore I may request a few hrs notification at certain times or have time blocked if I can't respond promptly. However you can message me to see if I'm available on short notice and if so, I'll go ahead and change the notice requirement so you can book it.

I've owned dogs most of my life and have been involved in dog rescue for 15-yrs. I even dog sit on occasion. I enjoy taking roads trips and traveling with my dogs and spending time at the beach. I currently own two senior dogs and frequently have additional foster dogs.

Relaxing oasis in Alexandria

After living in a townhome in Old Town for 20 years with no yard or outdoor space, I decided to buy a new house. My dogs only exercise was walking on a leash or finding empty dog parks at strange hours. Although my dogs were well-behaved, I observed a lot of negative behavior from pets and owners in city dog parks and wasn’t comfortable letting my dogs mingle there. When I bought this house a couple years ago, I knew I wanted to create an oasis for my pets. My landscape architect clearcut 75 feet back into the woods, installed retaining walls to help level the steep slope on the side yard and planted lots of grass to create the perfect backyard. The property is on almost an acre, so the back of the fence is very private with a wooded area. Occasionally, you can see deer on their way to the creek and hear fox behind the fence, although that is usually after 11pm. There is a lot of privacy and nature to enjoy from the patio. The yard is bright and sunny in the morning and shady after 2 or so. Since my yard brings so much joy to my dogs, when my friend told me about Sniffspot, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to share this dog friendly space with the community. There is always ample street parking right in front of my house. The 6 foot fence is reinforced with chicken wire to keep small dogs in and other animals out. The gentle slope is perfect for fetch to wear out high energy dogs faster. Lots of areas to sniff and explore. The entire yard is dog friendly with no pesticides or toxic plants. Water hose, dog bowl, toys, dog bags and trash can are provided. This yard was created for my dogs so all furniture is pet friendly and the dogs go wherever they want. I do try to keep them out of the fenced part of the garden (where the tacky yard art lives 😂) due to beer traps for the slugs but I don’t freak out when they jump the mini-fence. I don’t want any guest to feel any stress while visiting. Dogs will be dogs and normal dog behavior is expected. There is a fan next to the gazebo for warm days. The fan is plugged into a multi-outlet extension cord and you’re welcome to use both! If you’re into grounding, I never wear shoes when I’m in my yard. The yard is probably more than a quarter of an acre. The land that goes with my house is 1 acre. However, I don’t know how to measure the inside fence and I’d rather under promise and overdeliver. The entrance from the street is double gated, like a dog park, to prevent accidental escapes. Enjoy the gazebo and patio with dog beds for relaxing and shade. Surrounded by trees, the birds and fountain offer the perfect oasis to get away from high stress city living. Wednesday late mornings and early afternoons are blocked off for my lawn mowing company. Monday mornings, my dog poop pickup company services my yard. On Mondays, they usually come in the morning, but I don’t have a specific time. If you have a people aggressive dog, you may want to avoid this time since I don’t know when they will actually show up. I do pick up daily but have the service for anything missed as it’s a large yard with 3 dogs to track. If interested in hosting a party, I am open to a group of people and more dogs than the limit states. Send a chat to discuss details.
