55Lovely hosts. They have a nice well-maintained 1-mile walk through fields and forest (with return, is about 1 hour if you give dogs time to sniff). The big field at the beginning is a good place for dogs to get loosened up.
55Great spot to stop on our road trip. Lots of room to run and beautiful scenery. We were late and hosts did not rush us at all, will visit again if in the area!
55We come here every week and have a wonderful time!
55Another wonderful morning. We love visiting this spot. Quiet, peaceful and lots of space. We will be back!
55Wonderful spot! The open space is great to play with your dog and the trails were very well maintained. It is buggy on the trails - recommend bug spray. Thanks again!
55This property is absolutely amazing. Well cared for. The owner met us to explain the trails. Sherlock loved it! We relaxed after our walk in the chairs and the chuck it was a nice added touch. Highly recommend this place. We will be back.
55A warm and friendly welcome was extended by our hosts, with details of options on our walk. This 100 acres is so peaceful with plenty of good smells for my dog who was fully entertained. Thank you!
55We had a great time! Lots of space to walk and a friendly welcome.
55A beautiful and private space!! We even got to see a deer galloping through the fields. My girls and I LOVED our walk here. It was so nice to let my dogs be off leash and have fun exploring. The best part is how close it is from home!
55Fabulous place to walk your dogs. The owners are lovely. The trail is well marked. Water and chairs are set out. We had a wonderful time and now Eloise is sound asleep. Hurrah!

Description

Daily 6 A.M. until 9 P.M. we offer a partially fenced, groomed 1 acre + 2 field play areas, where your dogs can run free. We have chairs in the fields for you to relax. We have a Chuckit available to throw balls for your dogs. There is a pond in the first field but I don't recommend it for swimming except in May. Fresh well water in a bucket, for dogs, and bowls, are provided in the first field. From there we have a mile long gravel walking trail along fields and forest. It's very straight, and if you stay on the trail, you can't get lost. It is very quiet and peaceful. Part way back there is a small run-off creek and metal culvert that is suitable for dog swimming in the spring and early summer. This is marked so is avoidable if you put your dogs back on a lead as you pass. You can often see deer, wild turkeys and lots of birds, sometimes bald eagles. A walk to the end and back is 2 miles and takes 40 minutes at a moderate pace. Just past the culvert, we offer a nice trail around a wheat field, going East initially. This trail is very pretty and easy to follow. It's about half a mile and takes 10 or 15 minutes to walk. There are a couple of wet/muddy spots so be mindful. Be dressed for gravel on the trail, uneven footing on the wheat field trail, and potential water and mud puddles on the property in wet seasons and after rain. The main trail runs North/South so if you want a sunny walk, go at midday. A shady walk, go after 3 p.m. Cooler times are before 11 a.m. We plan to add a trail through the woods in the fall once the insects and ticks die off. We have a white garbage can for poop but please use biodegradable dog poop bags. ***IMPORTANT: all prices listed are in USD per hour for the first dog, subsequent dogs are $6/hour and guests will be charged in USD*** ** I offer memberships for returning guests https://www.sniffspot.com/to/3swhv On your way home, stop at MacKinnon's brewery just down the road for food and drinks. They are dog and family friendly; an all around great place to visit!

Hazards

This spot has water features, make sure to review these guidelines for visiting spots with water before visiting:Ā https://help.sniffspot.com/article/167-how-to-keep-your-dog-safe-around-pools-and-water - Three donkeys are safely secured in their fenced paddock (see details above). They are very sweet but will kick and bite dogs if they are chased. Keep your dogs out of the paddock. - Pond and drainage ditch. The pond is very deep and gets weedy in the summer. It is located behind the deer decoy in the first field and is difficult to see in summer. The drainage ditch and metal culvert are part way back on the trail. This is full of water in the spring and is suitable for dogs to swim as it's simply run-off. For those who wish to avoid it, the culvert is marked by orange caution cones. Make sure to review the previously noted guidelines for visiting Spots with water. - Wildlife. Usually only seen from a distance but could hurt a dog if they managed to get close, which is highly unlikely: deer, wild turkeys, geese, coyotes, raccoons, porcupines. - Coyotes. Very rarely seen during the day, coyotes become bolder at night. Do not walk the property after dark with small dogs. - Birds of prey. These are commonly seen flying but could go after very small dogs, if they are far from a person, which is highly unlikely: eagles, hawks and owls. - Deer ticks. These are in the woods so stay out of the woods. Use regular doggy precautions for ticks in long grass. People should spray their shoes and legs with deet repellent. - Poison oak and ivy in woods, stay out of woods. - Larger gravel on the path could turn an ankle so be observant and wear good shoes. - Uneven ground around the wheat field could turn an ankle; wear good shoes. - Biting flies. Wear hats and repellent. - Wind. If it is very windy, we do not recommend using the Spot due to the chance of falling branches.

Additional rules

- I would like to meet you for your initial visit, just to be sure you are comfortable and to answer any questions. - Shut the gate behind you when you come in. Don't block the gate with your vehicle; park in the parking area at the top of the field. - Stay out of all buildings, structures, vehicles, and the quonset hut. - Stay out of the donkey paddock and keep dogs out. Donkeys love people but do not like dogs. - Do not smoke anywhere on the property. - I provide well water from a bucket in the first field and bowls for your dogs. - We have a garbage can for poop but please use biodegradable dog poop bags. No loose poop please! ** Aggressive dogs should be kept on a leash, in case they run off.

River lovers spot!

RIVER LOVERSā€™ SPOT IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICEā€¦. We are overrun with Canada Geese. The nesting pair were welcome but the number that have moved in since are overwhelming. Their waste has made the site unpleasant. There are 50-80 in residence currently. The adolescents are 75%. Attempts to thwart them have not been as successful as summers past. I will change the calendar (and pics) as the move on. Summer is short!! UPDATE: We are awaiting approval by Dept. Environmental Conservation for ground changes. Iā€™M ANXIOUS AND WILL POST WORD SOONā€¦please be patient šŸ™. Follow up 8/10/2022 With summer slipping away and things not changing on our waterfront, Iā€™ve decided to open the calendar and see what happens. Things donā€™t always go as planned. The water is low. The shore is rocky (but not far in). The natural shore is pretty mucky. And thereā€™s an old dock that needs to be pulled. Mostly cosmetic and negotiable with the keepers of the wetlands. DOGS DONā€™T CARE. Take a peek and see if it would suit your pup. Weā€™ll be here next year but once it freezes itā€™s a ā€œno dogā€ zone. šŸ¾ Dogs, bring your people and swim, run, or just watch the ships on the St. Lawrence. No fence but thereā€™s more riverfront than road front. Our spot is small, quiet and your only distractions will be shore birds, waterfowl and fish. The shore is low rocks so good footing preferred. The water is shallow. The vistas are perfect. All dogs should have a river spot to share.
