25I booked about an hour before we arrived at the sniff spot. I let the owner know that I have two dog reactive dogs who would be ok as long as they did not see the dogs too close in the home (8ft from a window is ok). I did not get a response which is fine as I assumed the person was likely busy since it is a weekday. Once we arrived there were two fences - none implying of where to enter - into the back area (or so I thought). The left side of the house you cannot access the backyard, it leads to a dead end. Through this way the two dogs of the owner were at the sliding window barking at my dogs. It was fine as we turned around to go back out to the front. The (who I assume) owner, opened the sliding glass door where one of the dogs came out barking at my dogs. Thankfully nothing escalated and all dogs were able to get where they needed to be. We entered on the other side, again without any indication of where to enter. We walked back to examine the area to ensure things were secure as per sniff spot directions. Although the property is entirely fenced the lowest fence is about 3ft tall (near a sitting area by the BBQ), and has slats for dogs to see into the neighbors backyard. I did not feel comfortable having my dogs off leash as if another dog came into view I was worried my dogs would jump the short fence. The main reasons I booked this spot was: it is advertised as fully fenced and secure with 5ft fences at the lowest point (not accurate), water area for dogs (I could not find where to give my dogs water), affordable (accurate) and it was a larger backyard (accurate). I do believe this would be an ok spot for small/medium dogs (my dogs are about 80lbs each), but there are a lot of open spots that go into a dense area of greenery that I would be concerned if a dog had poor recall or any prey drive if they saw a rabbit or feral cat it would be nearly impossible to get back in the forest-y area. I hope this review is helpful for the owners of this sniff spot as there needs to be clear entry points, dogs secure in the home, as well as accurate fence measurements. It has great potential to be an awesome sniff spot, but until the sniff spot can be accurately advertised it was a poor experience for us.

Private 2 Acre Forest Swimming Hole In Rural Woodside (Update: 7 stairs added)

This is a private, undeveloped, forested spot. If you are interested in this spot, you and your dog should be up for a mini adventure. This spot is not a manicured, backyard park. It is wild and beautiful, and a rare find in this area. THERE IS NO TRASH SERVICE AT THIS FOREST LOCATION. PACK EVERYTHING OUT WITH YOU, INCLUDING DOG POOP BAGGIES. The trail starts at the west (downhill) end of the parking spot, and winds downhill to the creek (there are a couple of switchbacks). The trail from the parking area to the creek is less than 5 minutes long. At the bottom of the trail, is a deck. Beyond the deck is a year-round creek with a swimming hole. There are fish, frogs, newts, and crawdads. All wildlife is protected, so please don't catch or remove them. You may walk up and down along the creek exploring, as long as you turn around if you see a waterfall downstream or a house in the distance. The trail that leads downhill to the creek is intermediate, not for beginners or flip-flops. There should be no poison oak or ticks on the trail, but if you venture off the trail, you may encounter poison oak or ticks. There are blackberry bushes to the sides of the trail that resemble poison oak. There should be no foxtails. You may see wild animals. As a wild spot, you may encounter typical hazards that are present in most local forest trails, such as wildlife, water, and trip-and-fall hazards. This is a private spot, and there should be no other people or dogs during your booking. If you see someone during your booking, please let us know as soon as possible, so that we can take steps to prevent them from trespassing again. There is no lighting at this spot, so if you book before sunrise or after sunset, please bring a headlamp or flashlight. There is no trash collection service at this location, so please pack out any trash. Thank you!
