55We went for an hour walk through the trails. We could have easily spent two hours exploring, there are lots of paths to follow. Some of the trails are a bit rough so wear hiking shoes. The owner left clear instructions for us and trail markers. They also left water in a cabin on the property for our dogs. The cabin was nice and toasty (fall weather out) and we thought it would be ideal for winter walks to have a place to warm up. We definitely will be back in the winter months! My one dog is wild and we tried her off leash but she was out of sight too often as there are woods and tall grass all around so we kept her on a long line. We didn’t see any animals, domestic or wild. Overall my dogs really enjoyed the walk! We will be back again :)Shelby M.

55I had a wonderful hike with my dog and kiddos on this trail! It was convenient to have a separate driveway access to the trails. Once you get past the yard/field, the trails are lovely and secluded. There are some deep rivets that can be muddy after the rain, so wear good hiking boots. The little cabin was a nice layover and the hosts were so sweet to leave fresh water for the pups, treats, a lead (if you need it), and other amenities to make your hike enjoyable. I can imagine the woodstove would be a welcome treat on winter hikes! We were moving at toddler pace, so we didn’t get far, but it looks like there are plenty of trails to explore! My dog loved it! Definitely recommend :)Jennifer C.

55This place absolutely lives up to the name of refuge. I adopted my rescue dog less than a year ago, and though I have had access to sizeable urban backyards, this was another level. I had never seen my pup so happy to be free and with so much space to run. Unfortunately, my dog is dog reactive so dog parks are impossible, but the minute I left her off her leash, she was the happiest I've ever seen her. The area is a lovely property, well-kept, the fence is a great height, and Valentina is a great host (easy and quick to respond to questions). It is definitely worth the drive from Ottawa. Will come back soon! Laura G.

55We went straight to the section with the trails and my Emmy had such a great time! It is not a huge area of trails but big enough that there are several and you can't see from one end to the other. Fantastic property! We could hear some dogs in the distance but nothing close.
Valeria was very responsive to my questions, so thank you, Valeria!Kristina S.

55A really great spot! The trail in the woods utilizes the space really well with multiple short trails. It was a little muddy but that was due to the mild temperature and time of year. Recommended!Mike F.

55Such a sheltered spot among all the trees. I little wet, which is to be expected with the spring melt this time of year, but they had sawdust down and little wood bridges which were great! And of course our pup loved it. Plenty of space to run and explore.Andrea B.

55My puppy had the best time running through the trails here! Pretty sure he'll sleep like a rock tonight. Trails and yard are a bit wet with the spring thaw (to be expected!), but the host has spread sawdust in places to absorb some of the wet. Towels to dry off my pup were provided, which was really appreciated, as well as drinking water. It was puppy's first time seeing chickens and ducks, so a little extra socialization for the win. 🙂Stephanie J.

55What a great spot! Nash loved exploring the trails in the backyard and checking out the ducks and chickens. It was a bit muddy - to be expected for this time of year, and the host put boards and saw dust down to help, and had a bucket of towels to wipe down before going home which was a very nice touch. We will certainly be back! Jessica Q.

55My three pups had a blast. The area was fully fenced off so we didn’t have any worries. We went on a sunny spring day when the snow was melting so the pups got dirty with mud but Valerie left us some towels. She was most thoughtful. Will visit again.Violet V.

55First time there and the dogs had a blast! Muddy dogs are the happiest dogs. The host was very responsive and answered all questions promptly. The chickens and pekin ducks are visible so if your dog has high prey drive, keep that in mind. I asked the host to put the chickens in a coop because I wasn’t sure how my dog would react and I felt that the fence and the coop was secure enough to give me peace of mind. He enjoyed looking at them but also wanted to eat them, haha. Gurleen M.

55This was my first ever time using this app. The place in Oxford Mills was everything I hoped it would be, my pup had the best time in a well laid out and safe area! Am going back soon and will go many times after that. Highly recommend Sniffspot to anyone who has a dog that loves to run but either doesn’t have 100% recall or like me, just doesn’t have that kind of space. Thank you Valeria for Hosting!Al A.

FAQ about our Alexandria Bay dog parks
Are dog parks good for dogs?
It is important for dogs to have off leash exercise to sniff and run. But the free and open nature of public dog parks has drawbacks. There could be aggressive dogs, disease transmission and cleanliness issues. For this reason, many dog behaviorists discourage visiting public dog parks and recommend Sniffspot's private dog parks. Sniffspot private dog parks only allow one guest to book at a time and are not open to the public, which solves many of these issues.
Are dog parks safe?
While public dog parks have a number of safety issues, such as aggressive dogs, disease transmission and general cleanliness, Sniffspot dog parks much safer than public dog parks. With Sniffspot all bookings are private for just you and dogs you bring with you and we require all dogs to be vaccinated (or have equivalent titers). All Sniffspot locations are vetted and reviewed by guests so you can find the perfect place for you and your dog. 96% of reviews on Sniffspot visits in the Alexandria Bay area are 5 stars.
How do I know if a dog park works for my dog?
You can filter Sniffspot dog parks by fencing and distractions. If your dog doesn't have good recall, you can visit one of our 49 fully fenced dog parks in the area. If your dog is reactive to other dogs, you can visit one of our 3 off leash areas where there are no dogs audible or visible nearby. You can also filter locations to avoid other domestic animals and people. We also recommend reading reviews and reaching out to the host with any questions.
