MMF is preferred by puppies, dogs, people, adults and kids alike because it has potable water, power, picnic tables, chairs, several firepits, lit portapotties, 3 swing sets, 3 slides, monkey bars, 3 Forts, a log bridge to cross over Little Ames Creek for when the creek is flowing, a doggy playground, lots of picturesque moss, lighted parking lot, woodchip trails and many footpaths over 5 forested moss covered acres. Parking is near the road, separated by 50 ft of woods, so we suggest that all our doggy friends be leashed until they are on the trails with you. Please leash your dog until into the forest away from the parking area, after that Bob's Your Uncle! Watch kids and dogs in the parking area near the road, and at Ames Creek. A secluded place to dork out and have fun, enjoying a natural Pacific rainforest. Note that the creek is dry in midsummer until the fall and winter rains kick in. Boots are recommended in the fall and winter. Find a map of the main trails in a photo on our MMF Sniffspot site. There are lots of foot trails through the understory ferns. The log bridge can be used to cross Ames Creek, or you can ford it to discover the rest of Magical Mossy Forest Sniffspot. Please pack out doggy bags with you because there is no garbage pickup here, please leave no trace. If there is a downpour and you want to wait it out there is a dry shed in the parking area. CASHLESS sales at the store please. Malaney Creek Farm is a 124 acre conservation farm comprised of fields, forest and wetlands. 3+ miles of private trails, open grassy fields. Trails are marked to keep you pointed in the right direction. Picnic tables, covered areas to duck out of the weather and portable restroom with hand sanitizer. Your sniffspot staging area is located in what we call our "Cascara" campsite. Covered picnic table, adirondack chairs, firepit and a big green grassy field. This spot is a central location near the portable restroom, easy drive in access, and a base location for exploring the trail network. Our trail system has been a labor of love. We enjoy providing unique experiences and highlighting the natural beauty of the forest and wetlands on the property. Once home to giant cedar trees the property was purchased by the Great Northern Railway in the late 1800's. A railroad system was built here and the giant cedars logged and milled onsite. You wouldn't be able to tell that now as the forest is doing a wonderful job of repairing itself. We do have a few artifacts scattered about that have been found that you will see on your walks. A large concrete trestle base, railway beams, rail spikes and misc metal items from the trains and equipment. Most of our trails accommodate hiking and mountain bikes (yes E-bikes are allowed ;), however the hiking only trails are really evolving. Our new wetlands trail is a quick link between Casacara and the Beargrass island trail. It is foot traffic only and features hand hewn cedar bridges made from cedar logs left behind by the logging operation over 100 years ago! Log rounds to hop across wet areas and places to stop and soak in the quiet. There is a diverse landscape of rare native plants on this hike and foraging opportunities abound! Fiddle head ferns, chicken of the woods and more! Our most prized flora is a large patch of Labrador Tea. A very rare species of plant related to the rhododendron that native american peoples used as a medicinal healing tea. So come out and explore! Bring appropriate footwear, your furry hiking buddies, a bottled water, and a camera. We look forward to hosting you! Really big with multiple trails in a forest-kind of setting (cleared, not overgrown), space to sit, and also a big grassy area to play fetch. This place is a gem! Beautiful location with nice trails, creeks, and some open space for your pups to run. I bet it is even more beautiful in the Spring/Summer! The host was great to us. Very responsive, met us out there, and walked us out for our first time with very nice hand drawn maps. He gave us info about the property and eas very pleasant. He was very kind and patient as I do have two young anxious pups, Shepherd and Husky/Shep mix. As stated in their description, there are farm animals around, and you do go through a pasture first with chickens, turkeys, and cows nearby. I appreciated his patience with us getting past that with my two pups. Something we continue to work on in our training since GSD is very prey driven. Otherwise, mine have great recall and absolutely loved the trails to run on! It was a great way to spend the day and would love to come back!

We always love our time at Spring Acres! I bring my senior dog and a few of her young friends that keep her feeling youthful! Today we brought three friends who had never been to this spot before, and I think they had the time of their lives! So much space to romp, creeks to splosh, and new smells to enjoy. The human in our pack (me!) also appreciated some of the updates in the last year: bridges that had been replaced/repaired and stepping stones added to some of the muddier trails and one of the creeks... Where do I start, John, Thank you so much for Sharing this magical place with us. John was welcoming and gracious, he knew exactly how to respond to our under socialized dog, it was if they were already friends. He gave us a wonderful orientation of his beautiful property, which is maintained and a artfully so. There are many trails, all laid out on an outstanding, colorful artistic map. Even without a map, the trails are clearly marked with whimsical handmade plaques. Some of the trails look a little bit of a challenge for me, but my dog bounded here and there and everywhere. He had never been across bridges and he handled them like a trooper, lots of water, that my pup loved. I will come back again and again.

This is a beautiful spot. The friendly host met us and gave us a helpful map for the area. It really is like a hike rather than just someone’s yard which is what I was searching for. You and your dog will pass close and personal to some cute farm animals when arriving . Lots of ducks, turkeys, rabbits, goats and a cow or two. You will keep the leash on till you get through the pasture. My dog was so excited by all the smells she ignored even the bunnies and walked easily through them. Wear sturdy hiking type shoes. Lots of cute bridges to go over and some are slick with all the rain. There is a creek and I can imagine a lot of splashing fun when it’s not middle of winter. I will stress it’s the woods. My dogs recall is pretty good but I’d say if you are nervous about losing sight just bring a long line. My dog alerted on a squirrel when almost done and didn’t take off but just know it’s a possibility. My last dog would head to another state if unleashed 😅. We can’t wait to go back!
