Animal Rescue of Tracy is a non-profit group of passionate volunteers trying to make a difference in the lives of abandoned animals throughout our community of Tracy, California. We have so many sweet and affectionate animals in our care that need a new home with a loving family. As a 100% donation and volunteer-dependent organization, there are so many ways you can help. We welcome you to explore our site to learn more about us, our adoptable pets, and how you can help. Here’s to you, animal lover!
Animal Rescue of Tracy was founded in 1994 to meet an increasing need for compassionate care for abandoned or mistreated pets. In 2002, Animal Rescue of Tracy became a full-fledged, independent, non-profit rescue. In our existence we have rescued, spayed/neutered, and found homes for almost 4000 cats and dogs. In 2019 we found homes for 402 cats and dogs, the most in one year in our history. We rescue animals from the local shelter and work with the public to rehome pets in jeopardy.
Mission and Vision
To rescue and nurture companion animals with the mission of finding them safe and happy adoptive homes. We strive to create community awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering to avoid overpopulation and reduce the community euthanasia rate.
Adoption Policy
• Meet & Greet!
• A picture may say a thousand words, but meeting an animal is important before proceeding with adoption paperwork. A meet and greet can tell many things that one needs to know before selecting a pet to adopt. Does there seem to be a good chemistry between us? How do my children interact with this animal? Does he have a temperament and energy level that is a suitable fit for my lifestyle and home?
• Our adoption center is open from 11:00 to 4:00 on Saturdays and 12:00 to 4:00 on Sundays - you can find us inside the West Valley Mall in Tracy
• Appointments are also available
• Adoption Application
• Tell us about yourself. We would like to know as much as we can to determine which pet(s) would be a good match with your home, family, and lifestyle. Remember, we are a completely foster-based rescue group, so each of our adoptable animals lives in a temporary, foster home. As such, we know all the little nuances and details of the pet’s behavior, personality, habits, etc.
• Decisions about application approval are at the sole discretion of the Animal Rescue of Tracy. We are committed to finding our pets a successful match in a forever home.
• Home Study
• Applications that are qualified to be a good fit for a particular pet may be subject to a home study by authorized representatives of Animal Rescue of Tracy.
• In general, all dog and special-needs cat applications will be subject to home inspection and observation of the animal in the environment.
• So, what are we looking for?
• Compatibility: How does the pet interact with your family in your home? How does the pet interact with existing animals in your home?
• Safety: Are your fence line and pool area completely secure? Is your home situated against a busy street when you want to adopt one of our little escape artists? Is your property free of dangerous debris, plants, etc.?
• Practicality and Function: How much time will the pet be alone each day? Where will the pet stay when you’re not home? Where and how often will the pet be able to relieve itself? Where will the pet sleep? How will your pet get exercise?
• Transition to a New Home
• Congratulations! If you are selected to be the proud new parent of a rescued dog or cat, arrangements will be made to finalize contractual details including the collection of adoption fees. A transition date will be set by Animal Rescue of Tracy on which your new pet will come home to stay!
• Remember, this phase is called “transition” for a reason. It will be a time of adjustment and change for both your household and your new pet. Patience, diligence, and good old fashioned compassion will be key during the transition.
• We are here for you! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at contact@animalrescuetracy.org if you have questions or concerns about how your new pet is settling into their new lives with you.
• Important Notice: All persons who adopt from Animal Rescue of Tracy agree to contact the organization immediately if circumstances change that will make it impossible to care for the animal properly in the long-term. We reserve the right of first refusal when an animal originally adopted from us needs to be rehomed, but cannot guarantee a spot will be available with our rescue at the time a request is made; if no room is available, we will provide a current list of other rescues and shelters that may be able to help.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
