I adopted my new pup, Marley (formerly known as Aubie) in January of this year. I could tell from the start that A Good Dog Rescue was incredibly caring and passionate about saving animals and making sure they're placed in the best homes. Lisa is quite selfless and has transformed her very home into a safe haven for these dogs. The night I arrived to pick up Marley, Lisa was meticulously inspecting dogs, making sure everyone was ok and multitasking to perfection. Volunteers were on deck and were incredibly on task with every dog that was coming in. I've gone into rescue organizations that couldn't do half of what I saw that evening. I literally left in tears and was in complete awe. If and when I choose to adopt again, I will only go to A Good Dog Rescue!

We adopted Millie from OFR on December 26. 2021. The foster was a coworker of my daughter’s and she sent me a picture of her . She was born with a cleft palate and her left eye was there but she didn’t have much vision out of it . The organization was amazing to work with . They are very thorough in their application process and answered any questions that we had . The adoption fee was very reasonable and took care of all the necessary vaccines and spaying as well . Everyone we came in contact with was professional and very nice . When the time comes to adopt again they will be the first place I will look to find a new dog !

I got the doggy love of my life from ARF right before the Pandemic shut everything down. The process was simple, they thoroughly researched me (which I loved because it means they care!) and during it they were so kind and understanding! They kept me in the know and in the loop and helped fit meeting the puppy to my weird schedule. But it doesn't stop at when I adopted my pup...ARF is also incredibly involved in the local community, hosting and holding events that get everyone and their pets out and socializing and adopting!!

AFF is both one of the foremost experts in advocating the fact that all dogs are individual, including advocating against breed-specific legislation. AFF staff helps other shelters in providing trainings on how to socialize dogs at shelters and how to strategize about adoption communications and marketing. They treat their own dogs-to-be adopted wonderfully, socializing them so well. Finally, they believe all potential adopters, too, are individuals -- they are open to people from different backgrounds, as long as they are committed in the welfare of the dog. In sum: Their approach is all about challenging stereotypes with positivity and evidence of success. Over the years, we have adopted via different organizations, including NY ACC and wonderful private rescue groups, and AFF is by far the most knowledgeable, well-run, trustworthy, and impactful organization we have known. We are regular supporters and have adopted from them. And we are big fans!

Animal Farm Foundation (AFF) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization built on the principle that all dogs are individuals. Our Foundation relies on science-based information on animal behavior and public policy, including breed-specific legislation and housing insurance discrimination, derived from our subsidiary National Canine Research Council, a think tank for science and public policy. AFF's team offers regional and national initiatives that support dogs and the people who care for them in their communities. Current AFF programs include our Old Friends program, which is an onsite and foster-based program that gives senior dogs in shelters across the country an opportunity to live out their lives in a loving home. Additionally, we have dogs on the younger side that are also apart of our adoption program, who've come to us to await their new homes while enjoying the farm life. Our Family Pantry program recognizes pets as family and, especially during tough times, provide a way to help pets stay with their families. Furthermore, AFF staff consult with animal shelters across the country on evidence-based, progressive and inclusive enrichment, training, marketing and adoption policies. We also provide toolkits and resources for best practices to governments and community organizations as well as animal shelters and individual dog owners.

I volunteer as a cat socializer. HumaneCNY is always looking for people who would like to play with the cats to give them the opportunity of human touch and play. I have trained several myself. They have even asked for donations to hire a 'cat whisperer' to work with difficult cats and selected a small team of socializers to work with this specialist and learn her techniques. We have a log that we fill out to let others know what cats we have worked with and if there are any unusual circumstances (both positive and negative) that we feel others should know. They set up a program with a neighboring grocery store to occasionally bring in a few cats as a stress reliever for employees, and to show off the cats. HumaneCNY truly cares. I don't work with the dogs at all, so I can't comment on them.

Second chance is a shelter in Syracuse NY. It was started as a program where county inmates can train the dogs before they get adopted out. Covid changed a lot but through the pandemic they continued with their cause, pulling dogs from our overcrowded city shelter. I adopted my dog from them in May 2020. When he was found he was wondering alone and was so skinny. He was not doing well at the city shelter and was almost euthanized due to the stress and anxiety he had from being there, that’s when second chance stepped in. They make sure their dogs are a good fit with potential families, not just first come first serve. I am so grateful they saved my beautiful boy, he makes my life better daily. They continue to be a boots on the ground rescue and are struggling through the current issues with shelter overcrowding.

We were lucky to find our special needs girl from Northern Lakes. I remember my other half telling me "any dog but that one," as he was concerned that she was deaf, mostly blind and suffered horrific abuse as a puppy. We hadn't been dog owners in decades but I knew that SHE was our dog. We foster failed within two days. She is the goofiest, happiest dog that i have had the pleasure to be around. She's a neighborhood "favorite" as she loves everyone she comes across. Her special abilities don't keep her down. I will forever be thankful that Northern Lakes Rescue gave her the chance at a second life when other rescues thought she was beyond help. I'm honestly not sure if we rescued Lexi or she rescued us. New York

Rescue Dogs Rock is a non-profit animal rescue founded in 2015. We exist solely on donations and rely primarily on fundraising to help animals in need. Our goal is to raise awareness of the ever growing plight of homeless animals in this country, both in shelters and those dumped on our streets. Way too many amazing animals are euthanized every single day simply because they are homeless. We want to introduce these animals to the public and educate people that unwanted companion animals are not damaged goods or unworthy, but really can be great family pets. Because the abuse, neglect, cruelty and medical cases cost shelters the most money and are the most urgent, they are often the first animals euthanized. Our focus is on the rescue of these urgent animals and provide them immediately the routine, emergency or specialized medical care they need and deserve. We will go beyond just vet care and get these animals rehabilitated as needed using trainers and behaviorists to help overcome issues related to past trauma. It is our belief that no injured or abused animal should lose its life simply due to lack of funds. We do not have our own shelter, and we will rely on volunteers, fosters and adopters to take the animals into their homes and provide them with proper care and nurturing. All of our animals will be vaccinated, heart worm tested, micro-chipped and altered. All of our homes, foster or adopter, will be fully screened, including references and vet check, an interview with the applicant and a home visit to ensure the home is the right fit for the animal.

They also receive top-notch professional behavioral training from Dr. Karlene Bonnes, Founder and President of Animal Behavior Specialists in New York. We strive to eliminate the negative stereotypes about the abandoned and encourage people to adopt instead of buying a pet. Air Twiga Animal Rescue aims to end the unscrupulous killing of valuable, loving animals and realize a future without homeless pets. We rescue the beloved Pit Bull breed in compliance with all local and state laws and ordinances and other animals, wild or domestic, by helicopter or plane, especially those affected by abuse, neglect, injury, illness, and natural calamities. We pilot throughout the United States, including Alaska, Canada, Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. With great pride, Air Twiga Animal Rescue/Pilots N Paws has flown Military Canine War heroes from war zones in Afghanistan and Iraq to safety and new homes in the U.S. We have flown retired Military Canine War Heroes from their military bases to the Animal Medical Center in New York and the United States Senate in Washington, D.C., to be awarded the Medal of Honor. Our aircraft were amongst the first on the ground in Texas and Louisiana. Working with Pilots N Paws, we rescued over a hundred canine victims during Hurricane Harvey.

My name is Allison Monaco. I am the founder of this organization. My lifelong passion for animals, especially dogs, is what made me create this rescue. Along with the help of my husband Craig, we are able to foster and find homes for so many dogs in need. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Nassau County, New York. We rely on donations and foster homes to continue saving lives. Jake, was our dog, that passed away in 2016. He was the most loving dog and shared so many memories with our family. We wanted to honor him by creating this dog rescue in his name. image6 Our foster program allows us to thoroughly assess the behaviors and condition of each dog so that we can develop an individualized approach to help them feel safe and loved, and give them time to recover from any medical or emotional injuries of the past. Upon arrival at JRR, our dogs receive full medical treatment by a veterinarian to ensure their overall health. Then, we spend one-on-one time with each rescue to get to know their unique personality and disposition, and, if needed, provide training to guide them to be the best forever dog they can be. Because of the time and care that we dedicate to each of our rescues, we are able to find them homes with amazing families, where they will be loved and thrive for the rest of their lives. The organization was officially started in February 2017. Since then we have rescued, fostered and found homes for dogs in need from all over the country. Our ability to rescue depends entirely on the donations we receive. With your compassion and generosity, we can continue our mission of saving lives! We pride ourselves on making sure that each and every dog receives the proper medical care before he/she is placed for adoption. Every dollar you donate is tax deductible and goes directly toward saving the life of an animal!

    Companion Animal Placement Program

Villalobos Rescue Center(VRC) first began as a wolf/wolf hybrid rescue in the 90's back in California long before there was a TV show. Tia Torres was the contracted dog trainer for the City of Los Angeles Animal Services for 11 years. VRC began employing parolees in 2006. VRC relocated to Louisiana in 2011 due to economic reasons and major changes in county laws making it nearly impossible to function as a non-profit business. Now in Louisiana, VRC has a location in the city of New Orleans and in the rural/country environment of Assumption Parish (an hour and a half outside of New Orleans). VRC now has a location in Northeast Texas for wolfdogs (wolf/dog mixes) ONLY. Due to the overwhelming need to help other dogs, VRC has now become an all-breed rescue with the main focus still being on Pit Bulls. Now that we are in the South, we have to deal with heartworm disease. This means that 99% of the dogs we take in, enter our facility with this pre-existing condition. It not only takes three to six months to cure but costs up to $500 per dog. Our yearly vet bill is almost half a million dollars. That's $500,000.00 The cost per day to run VRC varies, but it averages $10,000.00. That's $70K a week, $280,000 a month approximately $4 million a year to run the rescue. We take in approximately 40 dogs a month. We adopt out approximately 40 50 dogs a month. We adopt dogs all over the country (the lower 48 states). We DO NOT adopt outside the country with the exception of Canada. We are no longer able to adopt to the state of Colorado due to state restrictions. Placing or giving up a dog: Whether it be yours personally or a dog that you have found, unfortunately with our relocation to Louisiana, we are no longer able to take dogs from out of state. The amount of dogs in our local area that need our help is OVERWHELMING and for the past 3 years, we have taken on the responsibility of working with animal control in our rural/country location of Assumption Parish where by parish guidelines, no dogs can be turned away from within the parish. We get approximately 100 requests per day to take dogs from all over the country and this is simply not something that we can physically and financially keep up with. If you email our placement box on our Contact page, you will receive an auto-response with suggestions on where else you can find assistance. There are many other wonderful Pit Bull rescues around the country. Showing up at our facility, unexpected and outside the tour times with the expectation of seeing Tia Torres or trying to drop a dog off from out of the state of Louisiana: Probably the two most common problems we have. To keep it simple, more than likely neither will happen. Tia Torres does NOT live in New Orleans and her schedule is very hit & miss. To have people showing up at our facility in the middle of the night, yelling and screaming for Tia (sadly it happens all the time) will only grant you a visit from NOPD. So you've been warned. As we stated in #13, we can no longer take dogs from out of state. For the record, this does not mean that by you bringing a dog from let's say California and by driving it across the country into Louisiana.this does not constitute an in-state dog. You will be turned away and referred to a group closer to the area you just came from. We can only do so much and if we took in every dog we got a call or request for, we would be taking approximately 700 dogs a week and this is literally impossible. Please be respectful of the limitations we have had to impose. Each dog that comes through our gates, is an initial and up-front cost of $1000 PER DOG to Villalobos (medical intake, vaccinations, heartworm disease, spay/neuter, etc) Again, we NO LONGER are able to take dogs into our facility from other states but we are NOT the only Pit Bull rescue. Please Google for other organizations. They do exist.

Established in 2013, our non-profit dog rescue is nestled in the heart of Western New York, with a mission to save as many innocent dogs as possible from from shelters in Buffalo, the south and even other countries. All dogs no matter location deserve a second chance. Our heartwarming story was unleashed when Buddy, a courageous canine faced the grave prospect of euthanasia inside a shelter in West Virginia. However, luck intervened before his scheduled euthanasia, and Buddy was given a second lease on life when he was placed in Julie Starr's home as a foster until he found his furever home. As Buddy flourished under Julie's care, she couldn't help but see the sparkle of hope return to his eyes. That's when she decided that EVERY dog in need deserved the same chance at happiness. So, with passion and determination, Julie teamed up with the equally devoted Jenn Manz, and they set forth on a pawsome journey to establish Buddy's Second Chance Rescue with one puptastic motto in mind:

This rescue works incredibly hard to save as many dogs as possible and place them in appropriate homes. They never give up on the animals and always take dogs back when inevitably some individuals do not understand the responsibility and want to return the dog. After financial hardship, this rescue has moved to a foster based system and has done so flawlessly. The foster families that have taken in the dogs are absolutely remarkable and do the best they can to raise the pups and give them the basic skills they need to be successful in their new homes. Moreover, this rescue functions as a wonderful, ongoing support source for people who have adopted dogs. Lisa, the owner of the rescue takes individual calls and text messages at all times to help you best care for the dog that you adopted. Other adopters from the group are also incredibly helpful and together have created an indispensable Facebook support group, which is a hallmark of the wonderful community fostered by A Good Dog Rescue.

    Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter

Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter runs completely on donations to help care for the dogs found in the city of Syracuse. All of our dogs are fixed, up to date on shots, heart worm tested and on preventative care while in our shelter. We pull these dogs from the over crowded city shelter to help free up much needed kennel space and prevent them from being euthanized due to overcrowding.

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
