Saving Grace – Animals for Adoption
#98 in United States, #13 in North Carolina, #1 in Chapel Hill
Saving Grace began in 2004 at a private residence and farm to bring adoptable dogs and loving homes together. North Carolina is one of the highest states for euthanasia in the country and our mission is to make an impact. Since beginning, we've placed over 30,000 animals, however the task is still daunting. Saving Grace partners with shelters with extremely limited resources where euthanasia rates are high across North Carolina to find adoptable dogs that just need a second chance. We also take a lot of dogs in need of critical care or in dire situations from them as well. Animals are chosen based on their adoptability as successful family members and Saving Grace strives to provide a more natural and non-traditional shelter environment for dogs to interact with others and exhibit their natural behaviors while awaiting their forever homes. Our Funny Farm setting allows adopters to mingle and interact with a variety of dogs and choose a new companion based on temperament and suitability for their home and family. Saving Grace is operated in majority by a hardworking and dedicated volunteer and foster base. This team is dedicated to finding an ever-changing but always special group of dogs an equally special family like yours. From intake to adoption, dogs are cared for by a support system of committed fosters and volunteers. Volunteer roles include everything from transportation, daily care, medical care, and everything in between to get them ready for adoption.

Love Mutts Rescue, Inc. (LMR) is a non-breed-specific dog rescue operating in central North Carolina and south central Virginia. We are a volunteer based, non-profit corporation run by a Board of Directors, and IRS designated 501(c)-3 charity. We rescue dogs in need from the surrounding communities, provide them with appropriate medical care, and place them in foster homes where they can be loved and nourished while they await their forever home. It is our goal to help all dogs that come into our rescue find the families that are destined to be theirs. Love Mutts Rescue was founded to provide a group of people an avenue to rescue animals from shelters. These shelters, and anyone who turns over a stray, can depend on LMR to provide these animals with proper vetting, nurturing fosters to care for them until they are adopted, and places to have adoption events so the rescue & the rescued can interact with potential adopters. We rely on volunteers to open their homes to foster, which is the only limiting factor to save more lives.

RescueConnect was started to help the overwhelming number of homeless beagles and bassets that find themselves homeless in North and South Carolina. Over the years we have expanded our partnership models to provide assistance to homeless cats and to include a wider range of breeds, but still focus on beagles, bassets, mixes of these breeds or other adoptable dogs under 50lbs. We also support cats by helping locals with TNR efforts and placing cats deemed socialized after trapping find forever families through local adoption. As we have gained cat rescue volunteer fosters, we have been able to provide assistance to shelters across North Carolina. The Henderson County Humane Society was first incorporated in 1950 and built an animal shelter in 1966 on property donated by the county. The Society was briefly inactive during the late 1960s when responsibility for managing the shelter was assumed by the county. County officials and animal welfare advocates continued to dialogue regarding issues related to animal welfare and overpopulation. The Society was reactivated in 1972 and began to operate both an independent, limited admission shelter and a thrift store. In 2003, the society's name was officially changed to Blue Ridge Humane Society to better reflect the differences between our county shelter and our organization's operations. In 1984, eight acres of land were purchased in Henderson County in Edneyville and the Animal Shelter was built and opened in April 1989. The animal shelter is a 5,000 square foot building with a capacity of approximately 88 animals. A major animal shelter renovation was completed in 2013. At our Adoption Center, we assess behavior and treat conditions as necessary with all animals under our care. Prior to adoption, each animal is provided with all the appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, dewormed and spayed or neutered. Screening and counseling of potential families contribute to our successful adoptions. We are committed to forging lifelong bonds between pets and people.
Shelter Dog Transport Alliance partners with over a dozen NC county shelter systems & beyond that are experiencing overcrowding and are in need of valuable space. Our aim is to work together to ensure every shelter dog gets a second chance at life. A recent study by Best Friends Animal Society has North Carolina ranked #3 for the highest shelter euthanasia rate, behind only California and Texas. In order to tackle this statistic we are currently partnering with animal rescues in New England as well as Canada to relocate our dogs to safety and into loving homes when our shelters become critically full. We decided to initiate this transport program because we never want to have to euthanize any of our shelter dogs because we simply don't have a place for them. We need to reduce overcrowding in our shelters so that we always have room to compassionately care for abandoned or neglected animals. Because of space limitations, many of our shelters have waitlists for people wanting to surrender animals. This has sadly led to the regular practice of individuals dumping helpless puppies, elderly animals, or animals that are simply unwanted by roadsides or empty fields. Our ultimate goal is to save lives, however, as we do so we are simultaneously working towards addressing the root causes that lead to our shelters being overcrowded. The Shelter Dog Transport Alliance is a life saving partnership that will not rest until our State is no longer a deadly statistic. The Shelter Dog Transport Alliance is an all-volunteer 501c3 animal transport program based in Asheville, NC and has safely relocated more than 8,000 shelter dogs & cats since 2020. We also provide foster care, medical services and shelter mentorship.

My goal is to place unwanted, abandoned Doberman Pinchers in suitable homes. I am not paid for my time and receive only minimal compensation for expenses directly related to veterinary care. I receive animals from various sources, such as people who are moving, people who cannot afford to keep their pets any longer, pets that have been abandoned, kennels going out of business, and from cruelty cases that have been reported to Animal Control. All of the animals are immediately taken to the veterinarian for a comprehensive examination. All animals are tested for heartworms. If they are heartworm negative, they are given their first series of distemper vaccinations and rabies shots. (It is assumed that the animals have never been given shots.) They are treated for any illnesses that they are diagnosed with. If the animals are well, they are spayed or neutered immediately and then placed in foster care so that their temperament can be monitored. The animals are then put up for adoption.
We are a non-profit organization of dedicated volunteers committed to offering essential care and adoption services to neglected, stray or surrendered German Shepherd Dogs. Based in Raleigh, North Carolina and supporting the Carolinas and Virginia, we strive to protect and promote this magnificent breed. We only adopt to people living in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

However, there are times when AARF is unable to accept an animal into the program. Not because we don't want to, but because we are often at full capacity and AARF simply may not have room or a foster family available.

While our focus is special needs, we are inclusive of all dogs and our main purpose is to rescue as many dogs in need as we can. PIPs is a foster based rescue, this means that there is no brick and mortar location- all dogs are kept in someone's home. We depend on fosters that are willing to open their hearts and homes to help a dog transition on to a forever home. The first step is to fill out our adoption application. All applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Once we receive your application, the second step will be for our volunteers to check your vet reference and talk with your personal references. The third step, if your application is approved, is for our volunteers to contact you about scheduling a home check. This is not to see what kind of house you live in or how clean or dirty it is. It is simply to see if the yard size, fencing, etc. is compatible with your dog of interest. It also allows other animals in your household as well as children to meet your potential new dog to see if everyone will get along and to make sure this is truly a 'pawfect' match! After all three of these steps are completed, the final step is to sign the adoption contract and make the adoption donation fee. Your new pet will be up to date on the necessary vaccinations required by the age of the dog at time of adoption, spayed or neutered, on heartworm preventative and flea and tick meds, micro-chipped, groomed, and well on his or her way with basic obedience and house training. All our dogs will be adopted out with a microchip, collar and leash, and a PMR&R tag.
