Our mission to provide a safe haven for dogs in desperate circumstances within our community and surrounding area. We rehome these dogs with families that are a good fit for the dog. We seek to serve the humans that come to us ‚both our adoptive families and the people who need help rehoming dogs ‚but our priority is to act as advocates for our dogs at every stage of the rescue and adoption process. We commit to our dogs for life! We are a registered non-profit organization, headquartered in the Tri-Cities in south-central Washington State. We focus mainly on saving dogs that are at risk in our region and placing them with adopters throughout the Pacific Northwest. Most of our dogs come from shelters in Washington & Idaho, where they are facing the threat of Euthanasia. Others are released to us by private individuals who need medical help with their own dogs. Other dogs are strays, either dumped or abandoned, that need a chance at a new life.

RHAS has gone above and beyond my expectations for a rescue! Just a couple months ago I adopted my sweet puppy Archie from Resilient Hearts, and every step of the process was incredible. The adoption coordinator, Nellie, was so kind and communicative despite I'm sure being crazy busy, and Tracy, who facilitated our meet and greet, answered all of my questions and more. The mandatory foster-to-adopt trial relieved some of the stress of adopting the right dog, and also made me feel sure that this rescue had the best interests of the pups in mind, and weren't just trying to move them along as quickly as possible. Since adopting Archie, I've had the great pleasure of joining the incredible community of adopters, fosters, and volunteers both online and in person. Archie loves to visit the rescue and help volunteer at events, and I love the opportunity to pick Mike's brain (one of the founders) who has so much incredible dog-behavior knowledge to share. RHAS really isn't just an animal rescue, it's a people rescue too; they're truly a pillar of the community, and every visit to Resilient Hearts feels like a big warm hug to my heart (and not just because of the puppies!)

Motley Zoo Animal Rescue is the revolution of rescue. As a rock and roll-themed, foster-based, volunteer-powered rescue, we take in animals that have no one else. "Animals" primarily means dogs and cats, but as the name "zoo" implies, we take all kinds (as long as we have a foster home/ resources for that species). We work with shelters and owners who cannot keep their pets and through extensive veterinary care and training, we rehabilitate them and place them in loving, forever homes where the animals will never again be abandoned. More than 30% of the animals we take in are special or medically needy and require more extensive and expensive care. In all we work with all ages, breeds, many species and all different types of humans too- treating each as an individual so they can find the life and love they deserve.

John A. Hern Jr. founded Greyhound Pets, Inc. in 1985. John was a Coeur D'Alene, Idaho businessman who built a foundry business and owned Industrial Park real estate. Among John's many and varied interests, he held greyt admiration for ex-racing greyhounds and became committed to their care and welfare. As the greyhound racetrack opened in Coeur D'Alene John started a small side business providing feed and racing equipment to track kennels. He demonstrated his commitment to the dogs by being instrumental in building a track sponsored Greyhound Welfare Committee that reviewed track and kennel policies. John's first greyhounds were Roo and Babe, the two greyhounds featured in the GPI logo. John adopted several greyhounds after Roo and Babe. Ace was one of his favorites and was the subject of many of John's stories. John was the executive director of Greyhound Pets, Inc. for many years and oversaw expansion to include the Pacific Northwest and Southwestern Canada. John's generous bequest to the organization he founded has provided for GPI's continued prominence in the ex-racing greyhound rescue effort. The volunteers who continue in the efforts John began, honor his colorful leadership in finding homes for ex-racers. John is remembered and his love for ex-racing greyhounds honored in the Hern Greyt Works, GPI's kennel facility in Woodinville, WA.

Best part is she really screens the potential adopters to try and ensure her dogs are placed in "fur"ever homes. Health is of the utmost importance to her. She spends countless hours and tons of her own money to help these dogs. Highly recommend adopting from her and supporting her rescue. Very professional too.

I've watched Melissa go from just a tiny pit/dog rescue with a few dogs to a full on sanctuary. She's gone through wonderful situations and survived some seriously awful ones (including a massive flood that wiped out her farm and nearly her home). She always did so with the animals first. Even through the worst she managed to keep going to make sure as many animals as possible had a safe and loving home. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about her or her rescue. The world is better place because of her and people like her. Love you Melissa (and everyone helping behind the scenes ❤️).

I started Misspits Rescue in 2013 to help advocate for pit bull type dogs. After adopting Dexter, a big, happy, pit bull that almost died simply due to his looks, I knew I had to do something. After years working with a local pit bull rescue and volunteering at a shelter, Misspits Rescue was born. In the last ten years we have grown and moved to larger property. We adding additional breeds over the years and help those that need us the most. Now that we have the space, we offer sanctuary to farmed animals as well. This created a perfect place to help struggling herding breeds as well.

At Path of Hope Rescue we strive to decrease the euthanasia rate of high risk dogs in the southern United States by transporting pregnant dogs and puppies to the Pacific Northwest to find adoptive homes. We are 100% foster based and rely on volunteers and fosters to help in our mission. The overpopulation of dogs in Texas is extreme. Because of a culture that does not value spay and neuter, there are simply too many dogs. And because of this, dogs are being euthanized merely for their existence. Shelters are forced to choose which dog to kill and which to save on a daily basis. There are an estimated 700,000 stray dogs just in the city of Houston alone. Dogs on the streets, dogs in shelters, dogs living on chains, dogs everywhere. Pregnant dogs and puppies are often euthanized because of the amount of resources they require or even more often, pregnant moms are spayed, aborting the puppies. Path of Hope Rescue believes that these dogs deserve a chance at life.

Ww lost both of our older huskies due to old age. I started searching for Huskies that needed adoption and spoke with Chrissy Rader from Hope 4 Huskies. We had cats so we needed dogs who could be comfortable with cats in the home. Chrissy had rescued a litter and we decided on a puppy. A female who was 1.5 years old popped up as adoptable. We took both. Hope4Huskies kept in contact with us through the whole process. Of course we had to wait for the puppy. And the wait was worth it! That was 3 years ago. I have kept in contact with Chrissy and followed her through the years. Listened to her heart breaks and her joy. She truly cares about each and every dog that travels through her doors. She gives her heart and soul to her rescues and their adopters. She even created a group for those of us who adopt from Hope4Huskies. Because of her we have 2 fantastic dogs. She takes time for every dog she rescues, sometimes maybe giving too much but every dog she saves there is a victory for her. She is a small rescue with a very big heart Chrissy deserves this award. The Humane Society of Mason County has been operating a long time saving animals without a shelter space. They've worked so hard to do their work and fundraise to feed, shelter, foster, spay and neuter animals in need in a county within Washington that has no tax-funded animal services. We love our two kitties adopted from there and appreciate their work so much!

I have been a puppy foster for Charley's since their first year of inception in 2020. Nicole and Charley's has in these past years grown and become a household name and exceptional rescue in the Triangle area. She is continuously learning anything new that she can and is a wealth of knowledge. Always there for her fosters and of course the dogs. I am very proud to say that I have had the pleasure of fostering over 50 pups at this time and being a part of their growth as well as Charley's.

Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary holds a special place in my heart. Since October 2023, my family and I have had the privilege of fostering four pups with them, and it's been a great experience. Not only does Resilient Hearts show unwavering love and care for all their animals, but their sense of community is truly remarkable. Adoption from MZAR gets you a pet who's custom-fit to your wants, needs, and capabilities! Foster families' reports on each candidate for adoption helps the adoptive family assess the "fit" of the animal. But MZAR doesn't stop there--they carefully screen each family and make home visits to ensure a good fit.

GPI is highly professional, taking great care to match dogs to compatible adopters with appropriate home conditions. Potential homes are inspected for any needed upgrades. Extensive support and information is provided, with no-question returns if the match does not work out. Facilities are extensive and immaculately kept. Dogs are not adopted out until medical care (teeth, shots, neutering, underlying medical conditions) is complete. Our current boy had heart worm when he came to GPI, which took months of care from their staff and veterinary care. Six years with us and he is going strong! We have adopted twice through GPI and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. Our greyhounds are absolute jewels, thanks to GPI for all their hard work.

John A. Hern Jr. founded Greyhound Pets, Inc.

2014 we decided our Shih Tzu Chewy needed a friend. I knew I wanted to rescue because he was a rescue. So I started to follow Mikey’s Chance and a few other rescues on Facebook. I ready numerous stories about how caring Mikey’s Chance staff was. How well they treated humans and dogs. How they would go the extra mile for the dogs they rescued. Well they did just that for our Izzi (they had named her Freckles). When Izzi was found she was roaming around on the streets of Kennewick extremely malnourished and had very little hair on her back or tail. Once they were able to catch her they realized she had very recently given birth to puppies. But they couldn’t find any nearby. So they put her on a leash and let her lead the way. She led them to the backyard of a house that had a shed. She scratched violently at the door but it was locked. They were convinced the puppies were inside. Someone with the staff finally got the owner out of the house who had been hiding in there up to this point. When he came out he was extremely mad that they were in his backyard and he absolutely refused to open the shed, saying vehemently that there were no puppies in the shed. He threatened to call the police. At which point they picked up Izzi and left with a heavy heart. A few days go by and they put her on Facebook. I fell in love and immediately told my husband I wanted her. I didn’t waste any time either. I called them and they told me there is an application process which includes an adoption fee that included the price for her getting fixed and a home inspection. Which sealed the deal for me. I thought if they cared enough to spend the time making sure the forever home was good enough they must care for their animals very much. But Izzi wasn’t ready to be adopted. The milk in her had to go away before they could fix her. I said no problem I’ll wait. They were having an adoption event the next day at a pet store near my house and I said I’ll be there. I got there not long after they arrived. Someone else was holding Izzi so I just waited. I started talking to the woman I spoke to the day before and told her I’m ready to take Izzi as soon as she can go. She said there is another applicant and the person holding her was the other. The woman holding her heard this and walked over to talk to us. The staff member told her I was the first applicant and the very first person to contact her about Izzi. After talking to the woman holding Izzi for a short time she said she was undecided and knowing how bad I wanted Izzi told me and the staff member she would drop out so that I could take Izzi. I was elated. I stayed there holding Izzi the entire time they were in the pet store. When people asked about her I said she will be mine when I can take her. Lol I asked if I could just take her home (I had filled out the application while I was there). The staff member, after talking to me the entire day, seeing how bad I wanted Izzi and knowing what kind of neighborhood I lived in decided to let me. But said that I HAD to take her to the vet to get fixed and that she would be over the next day for a home check and see how well my Chewy and Izzi got along. She came over and stayed for a good half hour or so. She agree and I wrote her a check right there. She told me that was the fastest and easiest adoption she had ever done. The rest is history. Mikey’s Chance did follow up a few times and come over again to check that everything was still going well. The wanted to make sure that Izzi was happy, that we were still happy and that Izzi was healthy. Which she was. She was gaining weight little by little and the hair started to grow back. I’ll always sing the praises of Mikey’s Chance!

    Path of Hope Rescue
