The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, open admission, no kill- shelter that relies on the generosity of our donors and volunteers to care for the homeless animals in our community, and place them in loving forever homes. The shelter provides a stepping stone for these animals offering them housing, food, medical treatment, training, and rehabilitation when necessary. For 14 years since the Town eliminated the shelter and SASF was formed, we have been dedicated to caring for homeless animals in our community of 25 hamlets and villages but, we don't stop there. We rescue dogs from kill shelters and dire situations across the country from New York City to Georgia to Puerto Rico and even Mexico. We have proven ourselves to be a leading shelter, and we pride ourselves on finding excellent homes for a large numbers of animals. Since 2010, the shelter's adoption rate has increased significantly due to the many new services we provide, such as a veterinary clinic that handles all incoming medical evaluations and care, public spay and neuter services, micro-chipping, and inoculations. We have one of the best training and behavior departments in the country. Our program socializes, integrates, and enriches the lives of shelter dogs and it has proven to increase the rate of adoptability of these dogs.
Mission and Vision
The mission of the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is to nurture the bond between humans and companion animals through education, advocacy and adoption. We enrich the lives of the animals in our care through training, affection and veterinary services, ultimately placing them in a loving forever home.
Adoption Policy
SASF strives to ensure that both our adopters and pets are provided with the most suitable match. Our adoption process is carefully designed to make sure our pets are placed in the most appropriate homes. Our responsible adoption program is implemented with every adoption. To facilitate the best possible match between adopters and animals, our adoption counselors make judgements based on assessments from SASF's temperament-testing procedures. This helps confirm the animals are ready for adoption and increases the likelihood of a successful match. Additionally, adopters are required to sign a contract agreeing to provide a specified level of care for their new pet. We have a strong emphasis on ensuring all our animals live indoors with their families, receive adequate exercise and attention, and are kept safe. It is important to note that our cats are expected to live safely indoors unless they are part of our Barn Cat or Advo-Cat Program. To ensure the well-being of our animals and promote responsible pet ownership, we require that the adopter's current pet(s) are up-to-date on veterinary care and spayed/neutered, unless there is a medial reason for not doing so. Furthermore, all of our available pets are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, and microchipped for identification purposes. We believe these adoption standards and policies contribute to the overall welfare of our animals and help provide them with loving and appropriate forever homes. Our shelter is located in Hampton Bays, New York. All adopters must be able to visit the shelter upon adoption.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
