Helping Animals & Saving Lives Since 1888
For over 133 years, the Kansas Humane Society has been committed to helping the abandoned and homeless animals in our community. Our animal shelter has helped hundreds of thousands of Wichita’s pets by providing them care, comfort, hope, and most importantly, a second chance at a new life.
The Kansas Humane Society is a community resource for pets and people. We offer an array of services that promote the human/animal bond, including pet adoption, behavior consultation, pet supplies, social media outreach, spay/neuter, end of life services, classroom field trips, youth education and community outreach.
The Kansas Humane Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and receives no federal, state or local tax dollars, support from the Humane Society of the United States, is not a United Way agency, and depends entirely on private donations and fees for service.
Mission and Vision

Holds
Holds are $50 and reserve a pet for you until closing time the following business day. Holds are processed in the order they are received and may be placed during or after business hours by calling 316-524-9196. If we do not answer, please leave a voicemail. The fee is applied towards your adoption; otherwise, the deposit is non-refundable and will be used by KHS to help additional animals in our care.
Dog-to-Dog Introductions
If you already have a dog and are looking for a new one, we offer dog-to-dog introductions to make sure both animals will get along!
Two counselors will control the dogs on separate leashes to create a neutral zone for both dogs in our play yard. Our counselors will look for positive and negative signs, see if the dogs do corrections, and if either dog shows signs of timidness or aggression. Afterward, they will recommend whether or not they think the dogs will coexist at your home and counsel you on steps to make sure it goes smoothly!
No appointment necessary, just visit us during business hours. The only time we cannot do dog-to-dog introductions is on event days.

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
