Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter (OKK9) in Sunrise Beach, Missouri is a charitable 501(c)3, non-profit no-kill shelter that takes in various stray, lost, abandoned, or surrendered dogs and cats. OKK9 relies solely on the proceeds from our thrift store, grants and donations from the public to care for our animals. The thrift store sales and public donations are also the driving force behind our ability to offer a low-cost spay and neuter financial assistance program, which serves and greatly benefits our areas' domestic animal population. We are not city or state funded and all donations are tax deductible. We rescue approximately 500+ dogs and cats per year and help countless others through our community programs. Your donations change the lives of so many animals who would otherwise not have a chance. Our organization was organized in 1986 and incorporated in 1989 under the name Society for the Treatment of Abandoned and Fractured Friends (S.T.A.F.F.). We later made the change to Ozarks Kat and K9 to better reflect what we do and easily identify ourselves as a dog and cat shelter. Although our volunteers and employees are few, they are a mighty and passionate team of individuals. Mission and Vision

OZARKS KAT AND K9 MISSION STATEMENT * To rescue, find homes for, and improve the lives of homeless dogs and cats. * To provide support and education to our community through our low-cost spay/neuter assistance program, emergency vet bill assistance, and pet food pantry. * To protect and advocate for companion animals in need, and to build a humane community that promotes compassion and seeks to strengthen the human-animal bond. * To promote the humane treatment of animals through education, advocacy and services.

Adoption Policy

ADOPTIONS All animals accepted by our shelter are evaluated by a licensed veterinarian to determine any medical needs. Before being made available to the public for adoption, every animal receives the following services: Any needed medical treatment for illness or injury De-worming Flea and tick preventative Age-appropriate vaccines Spay or neuter surgery Microchipping for identification Dogs 6 months of age or older are heartworm tested All cats/kittens are FIV/FeLV tested Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter is a NO-KILL facility. We will never euthanize an animal solely to make room for more animals. Dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are received as space and resources allow. Adoption fees are $150.00 for dogs/puppies ($250.00 for a pair) and $60.00 for cats/kittens ($90.00 for a pair) with an approved application. We accept cash (correct change please), checks (with proper identification) or credit/debit cards at the time of adoption. Payments made by credit card will incur a 3% surcharge to cover processing. APPLICATION PROCESS We pride ourselves on making sure each animal in our care is placed in the best possible home for that particular animal's personality and needs. Our adoption application is used to screen potential adopters but also to encourage people to think about what it takes to be a responsible pet owner. Once you submit an adoption application, it takes an average of 24-48 hours for us to process it and get back to you with your approval status. Applications that come in over weekends or holidays may take longer to process. We do not do same day adoptions, so please submit an application to get pre-approved if you will be travelling from a longer distance to meet our pets. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development. David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners. Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature. David is based in Salem, MA.
