"This shelter is amazing, not just because it is a no kill shelter, but because of the fact that every staff member is truly an animal lover, and advocate of their safety and concerns with placement. I love working there."

"The Humane Society of Sonoma County is a haven for animals (and humans)! One major feature of this establishment that sets this shelter apart from others is their Behavior and Training (BnT) center. I have witnessed countless dogs (and humans) be evaluated for behavioral "issues", a unique protocol put in place to accommodate their needs, followed by rehabilitation at the BnT center. I have seen so many dogs come in with excessive mouthiness, barking, etc. and be gently trained out of less preferred behaviors and united with a loving home. This is a truly transformative place that trains without pain and makes humans better listeners."

"HSSC is a terrific space for the 4 and 2 legged! It is welcoming, clean and best of all they take amazing care of the animals. I couldn't give a higher recommendation for anyone looking to adopt! We have a terrific community clinic & grooming onsite which engages the surrounding area and is a great resource for our animals."

"All the animals are very well cared for. They have large rooms equipped with a crate, raised beds, lots of toys and blankets. Volunteers and staff take them out into large play areas several times a day and give them lots of loves. Volunteers also spend time giving them treats including stuffed kongs, eggcarons filled with tasty nuggets. The dogs seem mostly happy and well acclimated to the environment. I highly recommend this shelter. Great job!"

"The humane society is a wonderful organization that truly cares for the animals that they shelter. They provide ample training to volunteers to minimize stress to the dogs, and are incredibly well organized."

hailey n.

Volunteer / foster

"The Humane Society of Sonoma County truly cares about the animals they are housing. They work really hard to get the animals adopted as soon as possible and they ensure that while the animals are staying with them, they all get treated like they are part of a big family. We have an enrichment program to keep the animals entertained in their rooms and we have an extensive list of volunteers to spend time and help socialize and take care of all our friends. Animal's rooms are always kept clean and toys/bedding/towels are routinely washed to make sure the animals are getting treated as fairly as possible. Everyone really does try their best to show the animals love and compassion, and it is overall a very heartwarming shelter."

"As a staff member here, who organizes our 300+ volunteers, I see the incredible love and compassion that motivates both our staff and volunteers. We are able to provide an very high level of care to our animals, thanks to our volunteers and staff. I see the care they all put into feeding animals, cleaning habitats, walking dogs, working with potential adopters to find the perfect fit, and it amazes me constantly. In addition we provide a wealth of services and support to the community, focusing on helping people keep their animals, where they might have otherwise had to give them up. We provide FREE pet food o people in need, we travel to locations where pet owners in need may be, in order to reach people who can't get to us (homeless camps, mobile showers, food banks, etc.). We offer low-to-no cost medical care for the pets of people in financial distress, we have a free vaccine clinic open to anyone, and a low-cost spay and neuter clinic, open to anyone. These are just a few of the features about our shelter that make it an incredible place for both animals and humans."

Thousand Oaks, California has been a safe haven for Sniffspot host, Jen, since childhood. Having grown up in busy Santa Barbara, Jen, an introvert from an early age, would seek out solitude and serenity away from tourists attractions and droves of people visiting from elsewhere. “My grandparents own 60 acres about a 30 minute drive from here, and I grew up spending every summer and every holiday visiting them on the ranch,” Jen explained. “In Santa Barbara, we wouldn't go to the beach on the weekend because that's where everybody was, so you'd find places off the beaten path where the tourists weren't. For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
