Megan Coleman is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA), Fear Free Certified Professional, and an AKC Evaluator. She began her professional career with dogs after welcoming a fearful German Shepherd named Jojo into her family. Jojo's extreme level of fear led Megan to positive reinforcement based dog training, and inspired her to pursue a career in animal sheltering.During her 6 year career in animal sheltering, Megan led the Behavior & Enrichment team at Austin Humane Society, was a Shelter Manager at the Bastrop Animal Shelter, and was also a member of Austin Animal Center's Behavior Team.Megan worked with a wide array of shelter dogs (and cats) with varying behavior challenges and needs. Many of the shelter dogs she worked with displayed aggressive behavior, reactivity, or high levels of fear, anxiety, and stress. Her career path provided ample hands on experience in addition to her education in dog training and behavior.A few highlights of Megan's sheltering career include creating a comprehensive enrichment program for dogs and cats at the Austin Humane Society, providing countless hours of behavior modification and training for shelter dogs, teaching incarcerated people in jail about dog training while working for Austin Animal Center, and keeping many dogs out of the shelter by providing training and behavior guidance to dog guardians and adopters.Megan's experience with shelter dogs gave her a love for "difficult" or "naughty" dogs. As a Professional Dog Trainer, she loves working with reactive, fearful, and aggressive dogs, and is eternally grateful for the lessons that dogs have taught her both in and out of animal shelters.Megan formed Train Your Dog in 2018, and thoroughly enjoys helping her clients. Her favorite part of being a dog trainer is seeing all the ah-ha moments of both dogs and people, and watching relationships between dogs and guardians flourish and transform. When Megan isn't training dogs, you'll likely find her in the garden, or working on land/home improvement projects with her husband and son on their rural property in Paige, TX.
