Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri is a nonprofit organization supported fully by volunteers and donations. Without the help of generosity - be it time, support or monetary - we would not be able to rescue the dogs that we do.
We rescue, foster, and find new homes for dogs in Missouri and surrounding states - Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.
our story
Rescue has always been a passion of ours. Being able to help animals in need is one of the most rewarding ways to give meaning to life. We are dedicated to rescuing as many Great Pyrenees as we can, providing them with love, safety and a second chance at finding happiness with a forever home.
In 2019, we started fundraising for a family that did not have the means to care for their sick Pyrenees and realized how much of a need there was for a Great Pyrenees Rescue in the Midwest.
What started out with 2 rescue dogs and one foster family has quickly turned into over 350 successful adoptions, at at any given time about 15 foster families, and between 20-40 dogs in rescue awaiting their forever homes.
If you would like to join our growing Great Pyrenees Rescue Team, please fill out a volunteer or foster application.

Adoption Policy
Adoption Requirements
Applicants must have a secure and visible fence.
Applicant must be 21 or older.
Children in the home must be 8 years of age or older. If adopting a puppy, children may be younger than 8 years of age.
In order for your application to be approved, you must also pass a home check and a vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history.
All of our dogs can be adopted in Missouri and surrounding states that we are currently able to transport to: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and Arkansas. Other states will be considered if you are willing to travel.
Our adoption fees are:
Adults over 12 months: $400
Puppies: under 12 months: $450
All of our rescued dogs are fully vetted prior to adoption, spayed/neutered (dogs over 10 months), microchipped, up to date on immunizations, and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.
If you are unsure if you meet these requirements, please contact us prior to filling out an application and we will be happy to provide clarification.
Adoption Process
The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our available dogs you are interested in adopting. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt.
Once we have received your application and contacted your vet for a vet reference, we will contact you for a phone interview to determine if you are a good match for the dog you are interested in.
From there, we will put you in contact with the foster parent, so you may set up a meet and greet with the dog, in person when possible. Or if the travel distance is lengthy we can set up a video call so you can see the puppy/dog you applied for.
If you decide you are ready to adopt, we will go over the adoption process with you and send the adoption contract to complete and return to us.
For health reasons, our puppies are not spayed/neutered prior to 10 months of age. They will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract with you promising to spay/neuter at a later date and must show proof at that time.
Additional Information
Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our dogs prior to being rescued and placed in foster homes have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house-trained or spent time with other animals. Our fosters work with these dogs on many of these issues to prepare them for their furever homes, but these dogs will still need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt when they come to you.
Rescued dogs need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard, or act nervous or frightened. An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the dog through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued dog a better life.
If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the dog must be returned to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
