Adoption Policy
MCHS Adoption Policies
At MCHS, our goal is to ensure the best outcomes for our animals, our adopters, and the animal population of Mower County. With this in mind, we have created the following adoption policies:
• First and foremost, MCHS is looking for permanent, responsible homes for these animals. Thousands of pets die each year because irresponsible owners neglect them, let them breed, or just decide they no longer want their animals. Please consider the time and money required to own a pet. It's a lifetime commitment—and nothing less than that level of commitment is acceptable.
• Adopters must be 21 years of age or older.
• All animals leaving the shelter will be spayed or neutered first.
• No animal will be adopted into a home that has resident animals that are not spayed or neutered or are lacking in current vet care.
• If you rent or lease your house or apartment, we request written or verbal approval from your landlord before you adopt a pet. We will not adopt an animal to a person or family that is either in the process of moving or is planning to move.
• MCHS does not adopt cats into Non-Permanent Housing arrangements, such as Dorms, Group Homes, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, etc.
• Animals are placed as pets or companions only. We will not place dogs to be strictly guard dogs or protective animals.
• No animal will be adopted that will be kept strictly outside.
• We do not allow pets to be adopted as gifts or presents to others.
• If you are interested in a large dog (over 40 pounds), we strongly suggest a fenced-in yard where the animal cannot get off your property. It is the law in Austin and in most outlying townships that your dog be on a leash at all times when in public.
• We do not recommend young puppies or kittens for families with very young children or in situations where all family members are gone for long periods each day.
• If, at any time, you are no longer willing or able to care for your pet, or for any reason the adoption does not work out, you are required to contact MCHS to arrange to return the animal. It is not permitted to sell or give the animal to a third party.
• All adopters must complete an adoption application. For adoption applications go to Adoption Fees & Inquires
• MCHS reserves the right to refuse any adoption.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
