PAW First Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption group for dogs and cats. We are located in Ponca City, OK.
We are completely foster-based. Our animals are in our homes. Anytime an animal comes from a crowded animal shelter, their stress level will naturally be high. We take the guesswork out of how the animals respond to a home environment. We give them time to decompress and settle in.
Mission and Vision
We are a group of volunteers devoted to the rescue, fostering, and placement of abused, unwanted or abandoned animals who may otherwise face life termination. We do not discriminate on the basis of breed. It is our goal to raise community awareness of the plight of homeless animals. Spaying and neutering is a huge focus as is overall responsible pet ownership. All of our animals are examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and receive complete medical treatment before they are placed in carefully screened permanent homes.
Our Goals
• To one day help lower-income people with spaying/neutering and vaccinating their animals when they otherwise could not afford to do so.
• We strive to help reduce pet over-population in our community.
• A mobile transportation unit/RV for our Adopt A Pets.
• Acreage for a large facility. Sadly, PAWFirst is inundated with far more requests for help than we have space or funds to meet.
• Foster and adoptive homes for large dogs, animals with behavioral issues, sick or senior animals are hard to find. We desperately need more room to house these animals for long term care.
Adoption Policy
ADOPTION FEES
Adoption fees can vary. Animals may require different medical treatment. Every now and then, a pet will be listed as a VIP. This means that they are in high demand for adoption and will quickly find a loving home. Because of this, they will leave a financial legacy for the other animals in our care who may need expensive medical care or more time to find a loving home.
OUR POLICIES
First, an application must be filled out completely and approved. Since we are a group of foster homes and do not have a facility, we make appointments for meeting with prospective adopters. Please understand that this is a GROUP policy..not individual. We have to do this in
When pets are too young for spay/neuter, there is a refundable deposit that is required by the State of Oklahoma. After the pet is altered, send a copy of the vet receipt and we will mail the deposit to you. It is rare that we do adoptions like that since we do believe in early age spaying/neutering. We have done alot of research on this topic. This is one example:
The American Veterinary Medical Association issued a policy on Early-Age (Prepubertal) Spay/Neuter of Dogs and Cats in 1994.. It was revised by the AVMA Executive Board April 1999 and April 2004 and now reads as follows:
The AVMA supports the concept of early (prepubertal, 8 to 16 weeks of age) spay/neuter in dogs and cats in an effort to reduce the number of unwanted animals of these species. Just as for other veterinary medical and surgical procedures, veterinarians should use their best medical judgment in deciding at what age spay/neuter should be performed on individual animals.
If you are approved but are unable to pick up your new pet for more than a couple of days, you will have to pay a nonrefundable deposit of half the adoption fee. When you pick up the pet, that will be applied to the adoption fee. IF you do not show up at the specified date, the deposit will be kept and the pet adopted to the next approved applicant.
When paying an adoption fee, hold deposit, or spay/neuter deposit, please have cash, money order or use PayPal. You do not need an account with PayPal to pay that way, we can send a request for money. If you would like to set it up yourself..Send to: Admin@pawfirst.com

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
