Bunny's Buddies is doing such important work, I have learned so much about what a true rescue mindset is. They’ve helped me realize the focus isn't on me & what I want or need but healing a broken soul. It’s shifted my perspective on rescue & that wouldn't have been possible without Bunny's Buddies. I’m so glad to see them on this list and I’m voting for them for best rescue as they are working endlessly to step up to save dogs from horrifying, near death situations. They work hard to ensure their adopters are equipped with everything that is needed to be successful when rescuing. I hope to one day rescue from Bunny's Buddies because I have never experienced a more involved rescue like them. They not only save lives, but also provide an amazing community where they continue to educate their followers by sharing so much information that I never would have thought to look into alone.

At our rescue, we are not only dedicated to matching our dogs with the perfect home, we are also dedicated to educating our community about the benefits of spaying and neutering as Dalis herself raised the funds to build a surgical room at our rescue where we host low cost spay and neuter clinics for the public. We are not exclusive to one area or county, in fact many people use our services from all over the state of Michigan and even some out of state including Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana. Dalis heart belongs to the misunderstood, the old, and the disabled. She always says that her goal is to rescue, but that her dream is that one day she won't have to.

Sky Sanctuary specialize in the humane capture and rescue of stray, fearful and injured animals from the streets of Phoenix, Arizona, the surrounding desert areas and local shelters. We often rescue the abandoned, lost and forgotten animals. Fiercely advocating for the animals in our care. Often our animals have extensive and complex medical needs that require a profound level of specialty medical care. Not only do we invest in our animal's physical health, we utilize a trusted group of trainers to build confidence, empower and improve our animal's mental well-being in order to live peaceful, happy lives in family homes. We are very different from other animal rescue organizations. We are "boots on the ground" in our community while passionately fight for the dogs and animals no one else has the courage to take on. We have a knack for finding ourselves in pretty breathtaking scenarios- some call it divine intervention, others call it luck. We live by the mantra "if not me then who?". We are funded solely by public donations through social media. We are grateful for the opportunity to help these animals. We would go to any length to #SAVETHESTREETDOGS

I’ve grown to care deeply for her…because of the person she is…those doggies know Love and Freedom and Joy for the first time with her..They ALL love her!… I’ve been around people that truly love animals… but Shannon walks out every moment with them… It’s a deep understanding and connection… She is answered prayer and a blessing!

I have never seen a more organized, loving, and honest shelter. I have had only "rescue" pets for over 40 years. My current love is Finn and I got him from SCH (the real one) 3 years ago. He was a DISASTER! 2 years old, breeder, never touched, never bathed, hot mess. Jenn and her crew washed him and I took him home. Let's just say, it was VERY tricky for him to assimilate to his freedom. But, after 3 years of constant love, hard work, and continuing patience, he is my rock.

We adopted our love bug, Harrison, from Mikey’s Chance - all 120 lbs if him! He had been tied up in someone’s backyard with a rope around his neck as a younger dog. As he grew, the rope embedded itself into his neck and prevented him from being able to swallow food. He was extremely emaciated too. Mikey’s Chance rescued and healed him, then we were lucky enough to be able to add him to our family. Since then, we’ve seen them rescue dogs who have been shot, hit by cars, puppies with parvo, dogs who have been quilled, missing eyes or limbs, and badly abused dogs. They just never say no. They’ve definitely earned this nomination.

Laila's Legacy was founded with a mission to ensure dogs impacted by breed bias and behavioral or physical challenges have a chance at a better life. Laila, our name sake, was an incredible dog who had a behavioral challenge that caused aggression towards dogs. Laila loved her humans, and especially our Co-Founder, Ashe. She was a large bully breed so her size combined with local breed bias meant sometimes people were afraid of her. But that didn't stop her from winning people over with her goofy energy. The rescue she was with did not have the resources to support Laila and couldn't find a suitable partner to take on her care because of her size and breed. As a result she was euthanized. Laila's Legacy was founded to save dogs like Laila. We never want a dog to be euthanized because an owner, a volunteer, or an organization didn't have the resources or because breed bias stopped them from getting the help they deserved. Dogs like Laila deserve a chance at life and that's what we're here to do!

Mary's Dogs - Rescue & Adoption Through every step of the rescue and adoption, connections are made between people, cultures, and dogs. Our community is extremely grateful for the supportive network that embraces us. Thank you to our partners in the south, our team, and all our adoptive families for being‚ the Hero in a dog's life. Why adopt a Mary's Dog? All dogs deserve a chance to find a loving and caring home. Many are abandoned or neglected or never given the chance of a good life. As soon as our dogs are in the care of our southern partners, they are treated as family members while awaiting transport to New Hampshire. Our professional team begins caring for the dogs as soon as they arrive at our state-licensed facility to ensure the dogs successfully transition into forever homes. We provide specialty collars and leashes, yummy treats, toys and even homemade chicken stew. The dogs are examined by our veterinarian and then microchipped. Once they are granted a NH Health Certificate and observed by our dog savvy rescue team, they are ready to be loved by you! We know our dogs. It's important you find the right dog for you and your family. We want all our adoptions to be successful and are available to answer your questions before and after you've brought your dog home. Please keep in touch! Join our growing community of dog parents and best friends. Come to one of our events, ‚learn about dogs, buy a dog a gift ,share photos! We love every dog we rescue. Sweet Home Doberman Rescue (SHDR) is the only 501c3, not for profit Doberman rescue organization in Alabama. Founded in 2015, SHDR has committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of abused, abandoned, and/or neglected Dobermans. It is SHDR's personal mission to assist these magnificent breeds in any way we can. We are dedicated to educating the public as well as future Doberman owners about these majestic, often misunderstood breeds. They are often portrayed as aggressive dogs who will attack at a moment's notice when in fact they are Velcro dogs who are loyal, protective, and want to please their family! A Doberman wants nothing more than to be by your side and on your couch. All SHDR rescues are up to date on their shots, HW tested, microchipped, and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Some come into rescue injured or abused and it may take a little longer to ready them for a forever home.

The ladies that run this rescue are truly top notch! They are caring, intelligent, and go above and beyond whenever a call for help comes in. They give so much of their lives to saving, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals of many sizes and shapes. They have hearts of gold and are always there with a hand out to help. They make sure the animals are cared for not only health wise, but also that they are mentally and behaviorally stable enough for new homes and they really care about putting them in the right home. I cannot give these girls enough credit. The world needs more people like them.

Thank you for visiting the City of Mobile Animal Services website! In August 2021, The City of Mobile began charting a new course to transform how we support people and animals in our City. The creation of a new Animal Services Department under the arm of Administrative Services signified a shift to a modern approach to shelter, control and programs. With a focus on community partnerships, this forward-facing approach works to ensure safe and healthy environments for people and pets. The department promotes responsible pet ownership, implements programs to reduce animal overpopulation, and has formed innovative partnerships and programs to increase the City's effectiveness in supporting animals and humans in Mobile. As part of this approach, a newly modernized Animal Services facility is currently in design and will be built in a new location central to all parts of the City, and many new positions are also being added to further our mission and programs. We look forward to serving your needs!

This little town rescue makes me so proud. I’ve watched them grow over the years. The people there are unbelievably dedicated. They have done amazing things with so little. Many in our community support them but they need more. More community support, more spay/neuter funds, more food and supplies funds, more funds to prepare these animals for transport to places where they can be adopted. They are drowning right now in unwanted accidents, drop offs, and surrenders. The animals and the people there deserve better that’s why I nominate Union County Animal Protection Society

I have adopted two Goldens from the rescue. They are so conscientious as to the families that take in the dogs. And if the fit is not right, they will find another home. That is how we got our Rusty. The work they do to try to save as many dogs as possible is unbelievable. I am so grateful that 16 years ago, I went in to a Pet Smart to adopt a dog and a volunteer there, called Carol . That introduction brought me and my son years of wonderful times with Dakota and Rusty!!

Rescue Rebels has been one of the rescues I’ve followed for years. I have been going to their events to support them and the animals they are continually helping and eventually became a volunteer so I could be part of their life saving efforts. I’ve seen first hand the dogs, both young and old, they have received in horrible conditions or on the verge of being euthanized. Time and time again rescue rebels came in and saved them and now they are all living a better, healthier, happier life.

Through Rescue Rebels, these companion animals are rescued, given the physical care necessary, spayed or neutered, and provided with behavioral guidance if necessary. Our TLC Transformation Project welcomes medically fragile companion animals, that have been left at shelters and provides funds for the medical care unique to each animal's needs, and then finds these animals foster homes or "fur" ever homes.

Adopt a Golden Atlanta (AGA) has been one of the biggest blessings in my life and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this rescue organization. AGA truly lives up to their mission in every imaginable way possible: finding warm, loving, and permanent homes for golden retrievers throughout the Southeast. AGA is the largest golden retriever rescue organization in the Southeast, and the only international rescue in Georgia. AGA has one goal, one purpose, and one focus: dedicating our lives and resources to saving golden retrievers in dire circumstances and placing them into incredible homes with forever families. Most golden retrievers come to AGA as victims of neglect. The prolonged pain and suffering they endure for months - often years - is heartbreaking and sadly evident from their behavior. Many are malnourished from inadequate food and water, sick with infections, deformities, and heartworms. These dogs also manifest extreme behavioral issues due to crate overcrowding, confinement to small pens for most of their lives, inadequate shelter protection from extreme weather, and lack of affection. One of AGA’s biggest community efforts involves actively rescuing all golden retriever dogs, including puppies, seniors, sick dogs (of all ages) and providing them with the necessary medical care and comfort to thrive. AGA also rescues thousands of retired retriever adults from breeders when the animals are no longer considered “profitable” or when the breeder cannot care for them. Sometimes these dogs are simply let loose to fend for themselves, turned into shelters that lack insufficient resources, or end up as strays; even worse, some breeders routinely kill the retrievers once they can no longer breed them. Without AGA’s intervention, these breeder dogs would likely die from heartworms, infections, or prolonged suffering from physical and emotional consequences of living in deplorable conditions. Last year, my husband and I adopted Hope, a female breeder dog, from AGA. Hope was used over and over for breeding and had hundreds of puppies. She also spent seven years of her life restricted to a tiny pen. She came to us scared, skittish, and unhealthy. It is difficult to put into words how incredibly rewarding it is to watch her transform from a terrified dog into a happy, tail-wagging family member. Since having Hope, I’ve gotten extremely involved with AGA. Breaking a dog out of a shelter and taking them on their freedom ride is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. I also helped raise a litter of puppies and got to see them grow from 1 day old to their adoption weight. AGA makes sure all of our dogs go to the best possible homes through vet checks, meet and matches, home checks, etc. They want to find the paw-fect match for their dogs and their human families. AGA 100% goes wherever neglected golden retrievers need us and will do whatever it takes to save their lives by bringing back the twinkle into their gentle eyes, filling their hearts with happiness, and restoring their trust in humans.
  • Adopt a Golden Atlanta Logo

    Adopt a Golden Atlanta

Adopt a Golden Atlanta [AGA] is a volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to finding warm, loving permanent homes for Golden Retrievers [both purebred and high golden mixes] in order to prevent them from becoming strays or adding to the shelter overpopulation. If a non-golden is best friends with a golden who is surrendered to us, non golden will not be left behind and will accompany the golden into our program and placed with the golden to live together in their new home. Golden Retrievers, regardless of medical needs or age, will receive comprehensive evaluation, spay/neutering services, veterinary care, behavioral training if required, and safe passage into a permanent loving home. In addition to providing those services, Adopt a Golden Atlanta is intent on treating dog owners who are faced with surrendering their dogs with the utmost respect, understanding and compassion. It is also our obligation to educate and assist the metropolitan Atlanta general public, and dog owners specifically, regarding issues such as responsible pet ownership, spay/neutering, obedience training, and veterinary/specialists referrals. Our goal is to reduce the number of Golden Retrievers sent to shelters. AGA will never allow a golden to die in a shelter. AGA relies solely on donations and has a 501(c)(3) classification with the IRS. Your donation is tax deductible. We also meet the requirements for corporate matching, employee giving and volunteer grant programs.

We are rooted in Kentucky with a strong passion for enacting change within the state which has a long journey towards building our animal welfare laws. Even as breed specific legislation has dwindled there are still large numbers of working dogs finding themselves at risk of euthanasia due to a lack of breed knowledge and/or training. Tier Haven is committed to giving these dogs a second chance and we are all honored to be part of their paths to a better life.

VRC works ceaselessly to give Pit Bulls (and other types of dogs) another chance in life. Each and EVERY dog is taken in and received any and all medical treatment necessary. We work patiently to re-acclimatize fearful dogs to the loving care of a human, so that they may eventually be adopted. In some cases, these dogs have never had a kind word or touch, and it is a slow process. After determining temperaments and compatibility factors, we begin that long search for the perfect home.

I have adopted 2 wonderful dogs from this shelter. The staff and volunteers spend so much time with the animals socializing them and there are so many community events promoting adoption opportunities. They are a no kill shelter and work hard to care for and find homes for the animals In their care.

The LASPCA has been helping animals for over 130 years. The facility is not only esthetically pleasing but the staff are all friendly, welcoming and helpful. After fostering our first dog from the shelter, they made us realize how easy and rewarding it could be. They provided everything needed and were always available for any questions or issues which led us to fostering many more dogs! It was a no-brainer when we decided to adopt a puppy of our own to go through everyone’s favorite shelter! In addition to offering dog training and affordable vet services, their social media pages are so clever! Through their IG page we were able to find one of our dogs long lost male siblings and now they’re life-long bro-sties! Our shelter deserves this recognition and so much more! Thank you for your time! WhoDat

Three Times the Love, Thanks to Rescue Charlie's Friends! I always knew I wanted to open my heart and home to dogs in need, but I never imagined the incredible journey that awaited me at Rescue Charlie's Friends. It wasn't just one furry friend I found there, but three! From the moment I walked in, the love for these dogs was palpable. The staff was incredibly helpful, patiently guiding me through the adoption process and ensuring the perfect match for all of us. Adopting from Rescue Charlie's Friends wasn't just about gaining three amazing dogs; it was about giving them a second chance at a happy life. Seeing them blossom in their forever home, full of love and joy, is the most rewarding experience. If you're looking to add a furry companion to your life, I can't recommend Rescue Charlie's Friends enough. They have a heart of gold and a passion for finding loving homes for dogs in need. You might just walk in looking for one dog, but you might leave with three times the love, just like me!
  • Rescue Charlie's Friends Logo

    Rescue Charlie's Friends

Rescue Charlie's Friends was established in 2018 because we love dogs and want them to have the best life possible. Many dogs lost their homes due to fire, floods or hurricanes. Others have been abandoned, neglected or abused. Whatever the cause, our mission is to rescue them and match them with a loving forever family. Most of our dogs come from high-kill shelters. The shelters do the best they can but due to limited facilities, dogs can't stay long. Dogs must be moved out quickly or be put down. These are Charlie's Friends. These are the dogs that we focus on. We stay in touch with shelters and volunteers in Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and elsewhere. We bring the dogs to Maine where Fosters care for them until they are adopted. We rescue as many dogs as we can but we always need more help.

    Senior dogSenior dog
I first learned of Reed’s Rescue by seeing some FB posts about them and was really touched by their mission of pulling senior and hospice dogs from shelters and finding them loving homes to live out the rest of their days. During the pandemic, my husband and I were both working from home and we made the decision to reach out to Reed’s Rescue and apply to be a foster. A few weeks later we were approved and we took in a sweet 15yr old pittie named Fudgesicle who was pulled from a NC shelter and brought to us. He was the sweetest elderly gentleman who got along great with our other two dogs and cat. It was such a joy to see his smiling frosted face every day. After two months, he went on to get adopted by a loving family who continues to send me happy updates about him. It was such a rewarding experience that we immediately reached out to Reed’s to get our next senior foster. In all, we have fostered 4 dogs with Reed’s Rescue, all who went on to loving homes, including our own. The last one was a “foster fortune” as Reed’s like to put it, not a “foster fail.” We took in Dale, a 13yr old pittie who was found as a stray and in a very overcrowded Baltimore shelter. Without a rescue/foster, he would have been euthanized in a matter of days. We saw his listing and with the the help of Reed’s, we pulled him and brought him to our home. He is such a sweet, loving old man that after a month, we decided to keep him and let him live out his golden years with us. Now a year later, he continues to live his best life with us. Being an animal rescue advocate, sadly I see so many stories of people dumping their older dogs or taking them to the shelter because they want a younger dog or don’t want the responsibility any more. This is when dogs need us most. These seniors are sad and confused and often overlooked by adopters. So when I saw what Reed’s Rescue was doing, it touched my heart and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. It honestly has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and am thankful for what they do.

  • Key to lions heart rescue Logo

    Key to lions heart rescue

Key to Lion's Heart Rescue was founded in January 2018 in honor of Lion, a dog who made a tremendous impact on so many lives. Lion was dumped at a very high kill shelter where his time was up. Without knowing his past, he was pulled by a rescue and placed into a home. Lion was then moved nine times over the course of one year in an effort to find the right home. Unfortunately, the second to last move was that one that forever changed his soul. Just like people, dogs have a breaking point, and Lion had reached his. He had been through more in one year than any dog should ever have to go through in a lifetime. His last move was to a home where he was loved and cared for by a handful of people, his advocates for many months. Unfortunately, it was too late. The pain and suffering he had endured in some of his previous places was more than Lion could overcome. The light in his eyes was gone and he was suffering. In the arms of the people who loved him dearly, we whispered our goodbyes and told him how much we loved him. Humans had failed him. As we kissed him goodbye, we promised Lion that we would do our best to ensure no dog would ever have to endure what he had in his last year. At that moment, we dedicated ourselves to unlocking hope for all dogs by giving a little piece of our hearts to every single one that we can save.

I live in rural Ms. I volunteer as a foster here for a small animal rescue, Yellow Rabbit. I foster momma dogs with puppies. I’m on my second foster litter of 5 at the moment. My first foster experience litter, The Peanuts Gang were accepted at Gals. There were 7 we sent. Gals went above and beyond I feel during the process. They were very precise in their requests making sure we had healthy, happy pups to be matched up with approved families. They worked so hard making sure these babies had the perfect home that fit their needs and personalities. Through all informative info requested, photos and videos my pups had homes waiting before they arrived. I was in awe! Here this does not happen here. Animals are not considered a priority by the masses and there are only small groups who are actual activists for animal welfare and awareness. Trying to make people aware of the importance of spay and neuter being essential. Through my experience with Gals I have been given a new hope. A hope that someday we here can have something as essential as Gals here. Gals is saving lives, inspiring and working above and beyond to bring awareness to animal welfare. We are thankful and blessed to be able to partner with them. Through their organization I also get to watch the 7 babies I watched birthed into this world and loved as my own for over 3 months get their happily ever after. After seeing this all unfold it’s made it easier to let this next group begin that same journey. The goodbye is the hardest part now that Gals has proven they are exactly who and what they say they are and stand for. They fully deserve this honor.

    Last Hope K9 Rescue

LHK9 is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit all-breed dog rescue based in Massachusetts. We are dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs from high-kill shelters in Central Arkansas and beyond. Though our rescue efforts are focused in the Central Arkansas area, we also serve as a resource for local dog surrenders, shelters, and special rescue efforts in other areas. We don't discriminate on the basis of age, pre-existing medical conditions, or breed, because every dog deserves to know love. As the literal ‚'last hope' of the dogs we serve, our southern fosters pull dogs and puppies from partner shelters in Arkansas. While in foster, each dog receives love, care, and medical treatment, then receives a health clearance and transports to New England. After a mandatory 48-hour quarantine stay and an additional health clearance, each dog is picked up and fostered by a northern foster family who serves as a gateway to his/her adoptive home, affectionately known as a FURever home.

Here at ARAR, we see our shelter as a safe transition point for many animals in need. Our goal is to keep animals in our shelter for the least amount of time possible. It is just a place for them to crash before their next step into a foster or adoptive home. Currently, we have about 30 cats and 10 dogs in our shelter. We do our best to make the animal's time here the best it can be. When they are in their kennels we play calming doggie music and they get enrichment actives. As we do not have a fenced in yard area outside, on nice days we schedule SniffSpots for our shelter residents! It is a great way that they can explore a new space and get some energy out.

Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Rescue

Rescues are frequent. Re-homings are more frequent. Re-homings differ from rescues in the fact that we will have a history of the dog and its need. Puppies don't normally need to be placed until they get bigger than the owner had intended and therefore are not as common in rescue. Please keep in mind that most ‚rescue/rehome dogs, are placed because of behavioral problems, most, but not all. Many of the dog's issues were due to lack of training and socialization. Most problems can be addressed and corrected in a stable and loving home. If you really want a Berner, do tons of research. Our advice is to attend shows, join a BMD club and research breeders. If you would like to be considered for a rescue or re-homing, please read our policy's on the Adopting page. The mission of the HMBMD Rescue program is to take in dogs of Bernese Mountain Dog parentage that are in shelters, surrendered by their owners, or that have become lost and abandoned, and to place them in permanent pet homes in order to help provide a safe harbor that they might otherwise be destroyed or abandoned.

Since our incorporation in 1952, HSSM has been committed to ending pet overpopulation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. HSSM is an open-admissions shelter and turns no pet away based on health, age, or behavioral status. Oftentimes our open-admissions status in a community with a disproportionately high number of homeless pets leads to needless euthanasia of adoptable pets in our shelter HSSM has now vowed to change this. In January of 2012, HSSM's Board of Directors adopted the most progressive initiative ever undertaken by our organization. This initiative, entitled Countdown to Zero, aims to eliminate the euthanasia of all healthy and treatable pets in our community. Our dream is to make South Mississippi a truly humane community where every pet lives out his/her life in a loving home. When HSSM achieves this goal, we will be the first community in the Deep South to achieve this milestone.

They work so hard to save every cat or dog that comes their way, and they also support their pups after they've been adopted.

    Stray Rescue of St. Louis

What sets Stray Rescue of St. Louis apart in the animal welfare community near and far? We seek out and take in those who no other organization will help or would simply euthanize because they are too expensive to heal. We take the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated and betrayed. We see beyond their brokenness and are here to pick up the pieces to make these special animals whole again. We see the individual and know that there's no one size fits all treatment plan. The minute they enter our doors, we look in their eyes and promise them ALL the second chance they deserve for health, home, commitment and love. Because these animals come in with a story that would give us all nightmares, it takes them longer to open up, trust and believe in humankind again. But with patience and time always on their unique schedule we see the light shine in their eyes again. Animals have an amazing ability to forgive which never ceases to amaze us.

This organization started as a grass roots organization bringing awareness to the chained backyard dog. It has since educated the public of the many detriments of chaining a dog and has spread the word and now people do not just pass by saying ‘poor dog’ they know there is support and help for this dog. UMDR is solely responsible for this awareness and is proud to know that many other organizations have brought this rescue effort into it’s fold. They continue to move forward with many programs and outreach for their community and beyond.

My husband and I adopted our 2 pups from CARE STL in 2018. I'd been volunteering at CARE STL for awhile. We still had our little old man toy poodle and knew it was time to grow our pack again. I'm type A and went in with a list of my top 5 dogs at the shelter - dogs that I'd walked or played with at CARE. We met with a staff member who also knew me. And after talking for a bit, we met our first dog, Sawyer (shelter name: Saunter). I fell in love immediately. He was shut down and as with many of our friends in the shelter, was giving into shelter stress. He was a relatively knew intake, so he wasn't on my list lol. He is spunky and sweet. He's my early morning jogging buddy and my sous chef every morning for breakfast. He also LOVES water. A month later, we decided that we wanted to foster a dog. I had had my eye on a dog named Beefcake earlier (he was on my original top 5 list), but had been adopted so when we adopted Sawyer, Beefcake wasn't at the shelter. Well, he was returned to CARE a few days after being adopted. He was attacked by the resident dog, and the humans had given up on him and returned him back to the shelter. But, one man's trash is another man's treasure. And a treasure he is. Now his name is Bulleit (like the bourbon, yall!) - but usually answers to Boolinz. This dude doesn't do anything half ass, whether it's stealing the spatula off the kitchen counter and prancing around the backyard with it, running full speed zoomies, rocking a game of tuggies, or loving his humans (he's always the first to snuggle us and stay by our side when either of us is sick or sad), this dog and his brother are my whole heart. CARE STL encompasses a lot of good people who volunteer their time and money, staff that works tirelessly, and a fearless leader in Weng Horak, who care deeply and endlessly about the dogs in their care. They see the best and worst of humanity in our city, in the lives of the neglected animals. And to take a municipal shelter and turn it into a no-kill environment has taken (and still takes daily) a herculean effort of a group of people who are for the animals through and through. I know there are a lot of deserving rescues, but if it wasn't for CARE, we wouldn't have the absolute joy of having Sawyer & Bulleit in our lives. Sniffspots has also been a godsend for us, and its origin story all the more sweeter because both of our boys are dog-aggressive (towards other dogs, not each other!), and human/stranger-aggressive. There are thousands of rescue dog owners like us who can't do the traditional things with their dogs and are incredibly thankful for the people in our community who open up their yards to us via Sniffspots.

    Humane Society of Western Montana

The Humane Society of Western Montana was incorporated in 1963 as the Missoula Humane Society. At that time, our community had a considerable overpopulation of pets. So much so that thousands came through our doors and difficult decisions were made. Fast forward to the present and there is much to celebrate. Our community embraced spay/neuter programs and as a result, the sheer volume of pets coming through our doors for rehoming dropped from over 8,000 to approximately 1,400. HSWM is grateful for the work of all our volunteers and staff over the years. We wish our work was done. However, in many ways it is just beginning. When we consider pet welfare across the state, there are many areas where spay/neuter has simply been an unavailable and unaffordable service. There are communities where pet populations are at unsustainable levels and dogs and cats go hungry. People and pets in those areas need our help. And, as costs rise, many here in Missoula are now finding they cannot afford care. This is why we offer free vaccine clinics, low cost spay neuter services and travel long distances to provide care to underserved clients and pets. Through our programs, which include a robust foster care system, food pantry, behavior hotline and veterinary care, we serve more animals outside the shelter than within our walls. And we are growing.

JCLDR was officially organized in 2014. After being in rescue 15 years, serving in the capacity of Coordinator at Large, in-house behaviorist and Vice President, Janeen Jackson pulled together trusted volunteers to create JCLDR, sharing 40 years of experience and expertise with the Catahoula breed. Our goal is to be a help to the staggering numbers of dogs being thrown away, traumatized, and euthanized. We wish to aid humans in keeping their commitments to dogs, through education and support. We offer a proven Board of Directors who are compatible in rescue and skilled in business operations. In spite of hectic lifestyles, we each share part of the load as volunteers, seeking no reward or benefit for ourselves except giving life another chance. Dogs are not unfeeling pieces of furniture, and they deserve love, dignity, and a second chance. We are passionate about our mission, and for many of us it is a personal one. We understand that sometimes all people really need to inspire them to give a dog another chance, is to hear someone say, “I can help. Together we can make it work; I believe in you.” We strive to build a bridge of trust.

    Dog Town Canine Rescue

Since 2003. Dog Town Rescue has focused on saving dogs from the absolute worst situations. Dogs abandoned by humans, dogs coming from survival situations fending for themselves in the desert, and feral dogs living on the fringes of civilization. Many of the dogs we have saved needed to be caught in a humane trap in order to safely bring them to our shelter. The dogs we rescue are not vaccinated. We have taken in dozens of dying puppies with Parvo. They are not fixed, which is a huge contributor to unwanted and neglected dogs. They are not fed properly, so most are full of tapeworms from eating rabbits and roadkill. Loose dogs get into fights, hit by cars, have untreated injuries with infections. We've rescued dogs with buckshot and/or .22 bullets in them that our vet removed while they were being spayed/neutered. We also serve our local Indigenous communities by providing free of charge dog spay/neuters for Tribal members. Most of our neighboring Colonies and Reservations are located in remote areas, and have little to no animal services. City and County animal control are jurisdictionally limited as to what they can provide, but as a non-governmental organization, Dog Town goes where the need is.

My first encounter with Mary’s Dogs was in 2019. I had just finished going through a divorce and I missed having a dog. I had heard such wonderful things about Mary’s Dogs, that I decided to reach out to them. When I first went I was anticipating bringing a puppy home but as fate would have it I fell in love with a 2 year old pit mix named Petey instead. The staff at Mary’s were amazing and kept in touch with me - they so clearly cared about making sure it was the right fit. This dog changed my life and helped me out of a very dark place. Fast forward a year I adopted another pit mix through Mary’s, Bub. Once again, they kept in touch with me the following weeks and months to make sure everything was going smoothly. I was so impressed with their organization and culture that I decided myself to get involved as both a donor and volunteer. These folks really do such great things, not just for their pups, but the lucky people who get to adopt them too.

ABQ Chihuahua Rescue provides safe homes and health care for stray, abandoned, and abused companion Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes, and education for the general public regarding the responsibilities of ownership and the humane treatment of companion dogs. Presently these services are provided in the county of Bernalillo in the state of New Mexico. ABQ Chihuahua Rescue provides the state of New Mexico with the valuable service of providing homes for dogs without homes. Revenues to support are inadequate to meet the state's needs in caring for abandoned dogs. Resources to accommodate the needs of abandoned dogs are often decreased to meet the "human" need. Unfortunately, when dogs are dumped in the vast landscape for financial resources, New Mexico cannot meet the situation. In Bernalillo County, there are only a handful of animal control officers to patrol a very large metropolitan area. Bernalillo is one of the most populated counties in New Mexico. It is surrounded by Indian reservations that are also drastically short of funding for abandoned dogs. Spay, neuter and vaccination laws are infrequently or selectively enforced and in the southwest, there is a value placed upon an individual's freedom to roam in wide-open spaces. Unfortunately, humans often provide the same rights to their pets, who cannot protect themselves. As a result, dogs are often lost, killed, and forgotten. There are countless reasons for these dogs to be abandoned. Age, Health, Pregnancy, and Disease are only a few reasons that these dogs find themselves under the ABQ Chihuahua Rescue's care. ABQ Chihuahua Rescue, Inc is a small but effective non-profit organization. Since its formation, the organization has helped numerous dogs through New Mexico. Its primary function has been to care for these homeless dogs and to find them a furever home.

I feel so lucky to have found Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF) in Beacon. My husband and I moved to the area and I was able to easily reach out and connect about volunteering. This has been my first volunteer opportunity at an animal shelter and it has brought my life so much joy. I primarily care for the cats, but greeting and loving the dogs every week as well is so special. Every volunteer and team member I have meet has been just as wonderful as the next. We are so lucky to help give these animals a comfortable home until they may be able to find their forever home. ARF does such an incredible job loving on and adopting out these incredible cats and dogs! Being at ARF is without a doubt, the highlight of every week!

This is a wonderful rescue! I was looking for a new dog and Pawfect Match took great time and care to match me with the right one for me. The volunteer spent almost two hours at my home with the dog I was interested in, making sure the dog and I were a good fit. Currently, I am fostering for Charleys K9 Rescue, and if I could, I would give them more than five stars! I cannot praise the founder and the entire Charleys village enough for their unparalleled dedication to pit mixes and bully breeds. When I shared a photo of a pregnant mama dog from Rockingham County with Nicole to see if the rescue could take her in, unfortunately, there was no foster available for whelping. After some quick thinking, I volunteered to foster Pear. That same evening, Pear came home with me and started nesting. Shortly after, Pear went into labor and proudly gave birth to 11 puppies (1 stillborn and 10 healthy ones). Sadly, we lost one puppy at one week old, and eventually, the whole litter. Despite multiple tests and examinations declaring Pear and the last surviving puppy healthy, they were diagnosed with fading puppy syndrome. Throughout this challenging time, Nicole and the rescue village provided exceptional support. Nicole was always available for calls and messages, day or night. Nicole's profound love for bully breeds shines through in her actions. Her unmatched care and concern for the dogs and foster families truly stand out.

I adopted my cat and dog from CCHS. I have fostered kittens and a dog for CCHS. The part of CCHS I’m most familiar with is the Kitten Fostering Program. It is extremely well organized and run with efficiency. When I foster, I get all the supplies I need, they are vetted before they come in my house, we have amazing volunteers who drive them to the spay/ neuter appointments and a kitten Adoptathon *every*weekend. We have a very active Facebook page to advertise our kittens. The new facility is so beautiful. When my kittens are old enough to “graduate” to the shelter, I’m sad but I never worry about them because it’s such a beautiful, homey, loving place. I am extremely proud to be part of such a beneficial organization.

I found TMAR one day on Facebook right after both my parents died in early 2020. I was already a pet lover having had 7 dogs and 2 cats at the same time for several years. The uniqueness of this rescue, it’s back story, and it’s unwillingness to give up has kept me supporting them since then. They have a global following for their rescue in their sparsely populated part of upper eastern North Dakota. Terrible weather, rural communities with little resources, and non existent state concerns for animal safety and welfare are daily problems they face. And yet they keep on going. They have been building a large new facility for two years that they are paying for as they go. We all help to finance this along with our rescue support. TMAR wants the youth of their area to participate in the animal care when the facility opens. They are a fabulous organization doing their best to help the unwanted and stray animals in their part of ND. They are worthy of any praise and financial help they get. ❤️

We are a 501c3 dog rescue located in Mandan, ND. Our mission is to fight the overpopulation of dog shelters around the United States. We plan to save them one by one, until there are none. We can't do it without you! It all started when... We were two young girls taking in strays and keeping them until we could find their homes. In early 2015, our lives changed... Kalli saved a dog from a high kill shelter. In the months that followed, we realized how many dogs needed a voice. We decided to be their voice. Our first step was to rescue 30 dogs from Texas, all within one month. We then went on to Shawnee, OK where we saved another six dogs. We also took in a few owner surrenders from our own state of North Dakota. In 2016, we rescued an additional 25 dogs from Texas. Our goal is to rescue from more states, including our own. Miles of Love is going to continue doing what we can to prevent overpopulation of dogs in the United States. We plan to save them one by one, until there are none.

    Central Dakota Humane Society

The Central Dakota Humane Society has had a shelter located three miles north of Mandan since 1994, but many people are surprised to find out that the organization has actually been doing good deeds in the community for more than 59 years. CDHS was originally formed by 12 members as the League for Animal Welfare in 1960. There seem to be a few misconceptions about CDHS. We are not the pound. We do not euthanize healthy and adoptable animals. The members who drafted the shelter's mission in 1994 decided that we should be a no-kill shelter, which means if an animal is healthy and temperamentally sound, we will not euthanize it. We will keep the animal until it can find a loving home. The members today continue to live by this philosophy because we believe there is always the perfect guardian out there looking for the loving cats and dogs we house at the shelter. Our main goals fall in line with our mission statement. Our first mission is to provide for, house, rehabilitate and relocate lost, strayed or homeless animals. Another important mission is to promote spaying and neutering of pets in order to cut down the number of the area's unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. We ARE a vital partner and a needed asset in our community. Please help us continue our mission. We challenge every pet lover in the Central Dakota area to show your love for your own animals by giving back to those less fortunate - the stray, abandoned and abused creatures who find their way to our doorstep and who are eventually adopted into wonderful, forever homes.

    Legacy of Hope Dog Rescue

As I sit here this morning listening to my sleeping dogs, I can't help but think about what is going on in the world. Many people are at home with family and some continue to go to work. As a healthcare worker who goes in everyday and who is risking my life and that of my family, here is what I am asking. Please stay home as much as you can. Take pleasure in the extra time with family and cherish it. Family all grows and changes, especially children, and these will be precious memories for the future. Help your neighbors. Who knows if we all have what we need for the next few weeks. Lets band together to help one another. From the rescue, I would ask you not to dump pets as there is no evidence they can get the virus. If you are home and stir crazy, consider fostering. As we can not have adoption events, this means the dogs in the rescue will stay in foster care longer. Thus we do not have open fosters for more pets. More pets will go to shelters and there will be many more euthanasia's. So open your home so we can try to save as many as we can. On the positive side, there is now time to potty train, socialize and it could be a diversion for bored chidden (or adults). Financially this will be a difficult time for everyone. As a not for profit dog rescue, we depend on donations and adoption fees to be able to continue feeding and providing vet care for pets we take in. As there are no big adoption days, this will be a time we will depend on all of you more than ever before. Please be safe! As the founder of the rescue, let me say THANK YOU to everyone who supports us. THANK YOU to all the fosters and adopters. None of us could do this without all of you. Try to stay positive. I keep telling myself this too shall pass and we are strong enough to weather this storm together.

2 years ago we adopted our 3 year old German shepherd from South Coast and we are forever great full to them for rescuing him. He was in a California Central Valley high kill shelter. He was an owner surrender at 8 months old. He had a severe case of kennel cough and was shutting down he was so sad. Jennifer and her team drove 10 hours down to rescue several of the larger dogs and those on the euthanasia list. Our boy was one of them. He was seen by a vet here in Oregon and started on medication as well as being neutered. We adopted him after he’d been fostered and vetted. He was nervous and threw up on the way home. But within 2 days he was hanging out with the kids and playing in the river. The smile on his face was the most satisfying thing I’ve ever seen. Jennifer herself called us on day 3 to check in and see how things were going. We can’t thank Jennifer and her team enough for giving so many pets like our boy a second chance for life and love. SCHS and the team there are family in our town we love all of them. They are loving to all the animals. It’s not just a job and a place of brick and mortar. The staff is tireless and the most committed team I have ever seen. Jennifer reminds us in the community to help with the pets at the shelter in anyway we can. It can be cleaning, dog walking, or just sitting and visiting the animals there. She reminds us on rainy days that the dogs would appreciate a visit. They do so much more than any shelter I’ve ever heard of. They fostered a man’s dog for a year when he couldn’t keep him due to circumstances in his personal life. He came back for his dog when he resolved those issues. Others have gotten funds for their sick or injured pets to receive necessary medical care. They’re sensitive to life’s curve balls and will take any adopted pet back if the owner can’t keep them later on. We are a community of older folks and Jennifer reminds us to help older folks remember to take pets in for grooming because they sometimes forget. She never judges, just looks for solutions and opportunities to educate the town on those options. SCHS is part of our town family. We love them and all they do.

This rescue has been a great way for so many people to understand the struggles that animals go through when they are in a shelter situation. Now, I am the daughter of Amber the owner and I can just say that Amber really truly cares for the animals in her care as if they were her children. I have had to talk her off the cliff every time we have lost an animal no matter how long they were a part of the rescue. This building has given me my two babies that I don't know what I would do if I didn't have them. One thing that I have truly learned about animals is how much they care about the people around them, and that they don't hold grudges against humans, even if past humans have hurt them. Thank you so much for honoring Champion's Crusaiders Rescue because they deserve so much, and this recognition shows that all the loss has a sad purpose in the animal world.

Dogsquad does amazing with the rescues they take in! They spend much quality time with them, acclimating each one and getting to know them before offering them for adoption. They even take them back in if it doesn't work out for the dog or family. HIGHLY recommend this rescue for all accolades.

Dog Squad focuses on rehabilitating these dogs by providing them with proper veterinary care, unconditional love, basic training, and socialization as fosters until they are ready to be adopted into their furever home. Each rescue dog is fully vetted prior to adoption, which includes spay/neuter, microchipping, and vaccinations.

The people in this rescue work tirelessly not only to help to lovable dogs, but also the less easy to love medical cases that need a lot of hands on sacrifice, TLC, funds. They never turn down the hard ones and I’ve seen countless transformations you wouldnt believe. They are also very careful to not over accept dogs into the rescue which is equally important for the health of both the dogs, and the volunteers!

    Almost Home Canine Rescue

Almost Home Canine Rescue (AHCR) was founded in Madison, SD. In Early 2018, the group was reestablished in the Sioux Falls, SD area by a group of passionate animal lovers. While we will now be based in Sioux Falls, we will continue to have a large presence in Madison through community events and assisting the Madison Animal Shelter. Our continued presence will not only fulfill our mission, but also assist in reducing the overpopulation of animals in our area and the surrounding communities. Controlling overpopulation is the foundation in which our organization was established on. AHCR is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is 100% volunteer-run and serves to help abandoned animals find new homes. Any of our board members would be glad to answer any questions at info@almosthomecaninerescue.com. Almost Home Canine Rescue recognizes the need for diversity and inclusion so that we may carry out our mission to serve unwanted, homeless, abused or neglected pets in South Dakota and the surrounding area. Just as every dog and cat has needs that our mission works to fulfill so do our donors, volunteers, fosters and adopters. All involved play a vital role in the success of our mission no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, education or disability. Our first transport was in November of 2014 after the death of Jayla Rodriguez. Dogs were being rounded up with a horse trailer to be disposed of, so many rescue groups got involved to help save as many of the gentle dogs as possible. We loaded our suburban to head to Hot Springs, SD to pick up a load of puppies from KC Willis of LightShine Canine. When we arrived we were nothing short of a hot mess, missing many of the necessary supplies, not quite sure how best to assemble kennels, and fumbling around with the dogs as we loaded them for their ride to safety. I remember feeling discouraged like I had no business in the rescue transport world. I apologized to KC saying that they sent the B-Squad to work with her today. She turned to us and said that the dogs didn't care that we weren't the most organized transport in the world. What mattered was that we were there, doing what we could to help get them to safety. The name B-Squad stuck, and we've transported well over 9,000 dogs to safety since that time. B-Squad Dog Rescue is 100% volunteer-driven. All of our volunteers have full-time jobs, we are hockey moms, photographers, dance moms, professionals, students, etc. We all have busy schedules, but find time to do what we can to help make a difference in the lives of others. B-Squad's motto is you don't have to be perfect to start making a difference today! We aren't professionals‚ we aren't the A-Squad‚ we are just ordinary people doing what we can to help make a difference. We are B-Squad Dog Rescue!

We have adopted two beautiful souls from Lucky Farms Animal Rescue. Our first experience with LFAR is when we adopted Remi in 2017. The staff knew his personality, quirks, and medical history in detail, showcasing their commitment to not just his physical health, but also his emotional well-being too. It was clear that this wasn’t just a rescue operation; it was a loving temporary home for the dogs in their care. After adopting Remi and getting to know the staff, we became very passionate about wanting to help in their mission so we became volunteers transporting, conducting home visits and even serving as a foster coordinator while I was out of work. Once Remi passed away, we knew we wanted our next baby to be from LFAR. We set out to foster Ruby. We of course foster-failed and wanted to adopt. Once all her medical conditions, including eye surgery, was taken care of by the rescue we officially adopted Ruby. Lucky Farms has continued to be a support system after both adoptions. Their dedication to these animals doesn’t end at adoption; it’s just the beginning of a lifelong commitment. I am incredibly grateful to Lucky Farms Animal Rescue for not only helping us find Remi and Ruby, but for their tireless work in saving lives and creating happy families. I cannot recommend Lucky Farms highly enough. They don’t just rescue dogs; they build families.

I've been involved with animal rescue for over 25 years now by volunteering, fostering & as a board member of a breed specific rescue group. I've also worked in animal welfare at a humane society when I lived in another state, so I'm very familiar with large & small city/county shelters. I know they all do the best they can for the endless stream of homeless animals. When I moved back to Ft Worth last year I started fostering for this high intake shelter. I have been so impressed by the entire staff with their care & dedication to saving as many animals as possible. They have great online tools to set appointments of all kinds; schedule surgery, vet care for medical issues, drop offs/pick ups, supply closet refills. They work tirelessly posting on social media, holding adoption events, attending local functions with adoptable pups, partnering with out of state rescues to transport Texas dogs to forever homes. Plus, when you come to pick up your foster, the shelter has a bag of all the supplies needed to care for the fur-kid (food, toys, treats, collar, leash etc) which makes it easier for the volunteer! I'm so glad that I found such a wonderful shelter to volunteer with. They are by far the absolute best organization that I've ever been involved with & so deserving of being named the Best Dog Rescue and Shelter!!

Arctic Rescue provides a wonderful service for malamutes and huskies in the Mountain West region. They have helped home countless dogs and given them a better life. Many malamutes and huskies are adopted by families and then given up because they have “too much energy”, are “too rambunctious”, or have specific needs that can be difficult to cater to (high prey drive, need regular daily exercise, sometimes not great with little kids, etc). Arctic Rescue finds a home for all of their dogs, regardless of their individual needs. We adopted Nakita (a 3 year old malamute) in 2010 after she had been in the shelter for over 6 months. She was so loving and such a sweetheart but didn’t get along with other dogs so they were having trouble finding her a home that was the perfect fit. We found her on petfinder.com and visited Arctic Rescue and immediately fell in love! Then in 2014 we adopted Lobo (a 2 year old, 120lbs malamute). Lobo had been on a chain in the backyard for his 2 years of life and didn’t know how to go up or down stairs and was scared of the TV! He was the big friendly giant and even won over Nakita! Nakita and Lobo were our best adventure buddies, they loved coming trail running and backcountry skiing with me and my husband and you could often find them in the shade at our favorite rock climbing crags. Nakita and Lobo brought us so much joy in our lives. Unfortunately, Lobo passed away in March 2020 from osteosarcoma and Nakita passed exactly 1 year to the day later from old age. We miss them terribly but are so grateful to Arctic Rescue and specifically Maren Partridge for bringing them both into our lives.

The purpose of the Organization shall be: To rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome arctic breed dogs in need, including but not limited to breeds such as Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyeds and mixed breeds of the aforementioned. To provide basic medical care, spaying/neutering, and vaccinations to rescued dogs. Resilient Hearts has made a massively positive impact on my life the last couple of years. Not only do they save animals and get them to loving homes, but they are a crucial part of their local community. I’ve spent countless hours hanging out with dogs and cats there, and I’ve seen so many different types of people come in for so many different reasons. Resilient Hearts’ willingness to have people just come in and hang out without pressure to adopt serves so many people, especially those who are unable to adopt at the time or are currently grieving a pet. Resilient Hearts is not just an animal rescue but also a safe space for people from all different walks of life. I also want to give them a special thank you for continuing to prioritize accessibility for immunocompromised people by having visitors continue to wear masks; it’s amazing to feel like there are still spaces that care enough to protect the more vulnerable people in their community. Mike, the main person you’ll run into when visiting, is absolutely awesome and caring. Every single person involved with the organization is compassionate, warm, and happy to see people connect with animals. Out of everything in Seattle, I will miss Resilient Hearts most when I move away.

We work with shelters and owners who cannot keep their pets and through extensive veterinary care and training, we rehabilitate them and place them in loving, forever homes where the animals will never again be abandoned. More than 30% of the animals we take in are special or medically needy and require more extensive and expensive care. In all we work with all ages, breeds, many species and all different types of humans too- treating each as an individual so they can find the life and love they deserve.

We adopted Billy (renamed Smaug) from Fetch. He came into our house where we had one dog who is extremely anxious. Throughout the entire adoption process, I was very upfront about the fact that I have this special dog. I was pretty confident that our current dog would gain more confidence if he had another dog in the house that was more confident than our current anxious boy. The foster parents were the most helpful people throughout the adoption process, even giving us helpful tips about introducing the dogs. They have been invested in how both dogs have been doing, even post adoption. I've never done through an adoption process like this.

Fetch Wisconsin Rescue is an entirely volunteer run organization dedicated to finding homes for dogs in need. We spend time getting to know each dog to make the best possible match for their forever home. Since the group's founding in April 2013, we have rescued more than 3,500 dogs. We aim to help our dogs become happy and balanced, and for our volunteers to be confident pack leaders.

The Hope Highway does so much good, not only for the dogs in the south, but also local surrenders. The fosters and board members really care about the dogs and want them to have their best lives. We adopted our Peanut from them a year and a half ago and we have since become fosters (Hope Highway is not a shelter, so all dogs that come in need a loving home until adopted), volunteer to raise funds, and try to help and support in any way we can.

For me, the ranch was just my happy place.”
