Born as a husband and wife endeavor, Code Red Animal Project is a labor of love. In the summer of 2022, in light of the steep increase in shelter intakes at Fort Worth area shelters, Jyl and Brian became prolific local fosters. They made strong ties with shelters, local fosters, animal transporters, and rescues near and far. In their experiences, it became apparent that there can never be enough hands on the deck of animal welfare, and Code Red Animal Project was born. CRAP seeks to rescue domestic animals from urgent situations: code red and last call shelter lists, owner surrenders, and community rescues, giving these "urgent" animals the time, space and resources to decompress, heal, socialize, and develop the skills to be successful in their forever homes. CRAP matches our adoptable animals to loving families, and facilitates their transport to their homes. We strive to make a positive change in all of our pursuits and inspire others along the way.
PHILOSOPHY
At Code Red Animal Project, animals come first. Each animal under our care is an individual, and there is no time limit on their stay with us. We are willing to work with behavioral and medical conditions, and often take in animals that have been overlooked or mislabeled. Our greatest assets in serving these animas is our teamwork and flexibility. We value the diverse experience, areas of expertise, and opinions of our collaborators, volunteers, and team members. There is strength in numbers, and with community as our pillar, we hope to positively impact animal welfare in Fort Worth, TX, and beyond.
EQUITY STATEMENT
At Code Red Animal Project Inc's core is the pillar of collaboration and inclusivity. We see the beauty and value of each living being, and promote a culture of respect, kindness, dignity and love. Inclusivity drives our success and we value the unique strengths and identity of community of volunteers, fosters, and supporters. As such, we expect all Code Red Animal Project Inc. representatives to treat others with respect, dignity and love, regardless of their beliefs, identities or choices. This extends to our board members, volunteers, fosters, networkers, and anyone who chooses to align with our mission. We recognize that differences in age, gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, physical ability, thinking style, and background are the unique differences that contribute to the success of our rescue organization. Just as we help animals in need, regardless of their breed, we welcome all partners, volunteers and adopters whose energy aligns with our mission. The spirit of connection and inclusion drive increased creativity and meaningful impact in the communities we serve.
Adoption Policy
Adoption process
If you are interested in one of our animals, we urge you to complete our foster/adoption application. All of our adoptions are foster-to-adopt and our matchmaking process is individualized. Applications received will be followed by a phone conversation to discuss your family's lifestyle, your "ideal dog," and the play-style of any current pets. We will discuss the pet applied for and any other pets that we think might be a great fit for your situation. If you'd like to meet any of our pets in person or virtually, we are happy to set up meet-and-greets. We firmly believe that you cannot know if an animal will be the right fit for your family with just one meeting and we encourage an "adoption trial" in the form of foster-to-adopt. The foster-to-adopt model allows you and your new pet to experience each other for as long as is needed to determine if you are their permanent home or if you are an important stepping stone in their journey home. We are happy to talk you through any hiccups in the transition process and decipher doggy behavior. We will teach you about decompression, proper introductions, and whatever else you need to know. Our doors are always take back a foster that isn't the perfect fit. It helps us learn even more about our adoptable pets and helps you determine what personalities and energy levels would be ideal additions to your home. Every person and animal is unique. As the experts on our animals, we are honest about any behavior or health issues, and will give you tips and tricks for each pet we have. Transparency is integral to our adoption experience. We want our match-making to result in the final forever home for each rescue pet we adopt out.

Get your dog the safe enrichment they need by renting a Sniffspot

David Adams is a man of many passions, but his love for dogs stands above all. He is not only a dog lover, but also the founder of an innovative platform called Sniffspot. This unique platform connects dog owners with private property owners who are willing to rent out their space for off-leash playtime. While the idea of Sniffspot was initially conceived by his wife, Rebecca, David has been the driving force behind its remarkable success, tirelessly overseeing its growth and development.
David's dedication to providing safe and enjoyable spaces for dogs to play, explore, and socialize is evident in his unwavering commitment to Sniffspot. He strongly believes that dogs need ample space and opportunities to stretch their legs and have fun. As a result, he has worked tirelessly to build a network of private property owners across the country who share his vision and are willing to offer their space for the benefit of dogs and their owners.
Despite his busy schedule, David always finds time to indulge in his passion for the great outdoors. He loves nothing more than exploring new hiking trails and embarking on thrilling outdoor adventures. Whenever he is not working on Sniffspot, he can often be found hiking or visiting multi-acre fenced sniffspots with his two beloved dogs, Soba and Toshii. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys the fresh air, breathtaking scenery, and the sense of freedom that comes with being in nature.
David is based in Salem, MA.
